Originally entitled ‘Project Bluestreak’, Clif Bleszinski’s (of Gears of War fame) next foray into videogame development has culminated in LawBreaker, and it looks rather good.
If we had to describe LawBreakers as succinctly as possible, having only seen this initial gameplay reveal (which you’ll find below), we would call it the illegitimate love child of Unreal Tournament and Blizzard’s upcoming Overwatch.
By that we mean, LawBreakers looks to amalgamate the functionality of varying, and really quite unique, class types of a game like Overwatch or Team Fortress 2 and give it high-octane Unreal Tournament-esque shooting mechanic.
Of course, we won’t know until we get a feel for it, but the way weapons and characters seem to handle all seems very reminiscent of Unreal Tournament 3, which really isn’t much of a surprise given the studio Bleszinksi originally hails from.
That is to say, characters and their movements seem a lot meatier than the likes of Overwatch or Team Fortress; character abilities are far more grounded in science fiction than fantasy; and some of the weapons look straight out of an Unreal Tournament setting.
See what we mean.
Moreover, barring the slightly more cartoonish aesthetic, it looks quite a bit like Unreal Tournament.
We’re not stupid, we know that a lot of that may be down to the engine powering LawBreakers, the Unreal Engine 4.
Either way, we’re actually pretty excited about LawBreakers. We can’t wait to see how it unfolds.
