Gran Turismo 7 is getting review bombed over microtransactions

22 March 2022

Despite its stellar sales, Gran Turismo 7 is currently sitting at a user score of 1.8 on Metacritic – one of the lowest ratings ever for a Sony game.

This dreadful score is due to several issues players have encountered, which they claim ruins the gaming experience.

“Sony has taken something sacred to me, a GT game reminiscent of GT1 and GT2 and tore it to shreds, smashed it into the ground, spit and stepped on it, and then took a page out of other publishers book and essentially forced microtransactions down the throat,” commented one user alongside their 1/10 rating.

The user added that the game suffers from its always online format, reduced replayability and forced microtransactions.

Other users had similar concerns with comments such as:

“Pathetic Polyphony and Sony absolutely pathetic this game had so much potential but u had to get greedy and ruin it by forcing micro transactions, always online even to play single player, I thought I spent £90 to own the game, I don’t.”

“Shame on Sony and **** Polyphony Digital, you deserved nothing but a Zero score for what you guys have done to all players.”

Another key concern that players have mentioned is that many of the tracks that provide in-game currency to purchase expensive high-end cars have reduced their rewards.

This has made the grind to acquire more expensive cars with in-game currency far longer, and it has been suggested that this is to increase microtransaction volumes.

The founder of the series, Kazunori Yamauchi, has defended the pricing by stating that it is intended to better to convey the value and rarity of the cars and link them to their real-world prices.

However, this explanation has done little to ease players’ concerns.

The developer has promised that future content will constructively resolve player concerns.
