Certain folk have laid their grubby mitts on the highly anticipated Gran Turismo 5 before its official global launch date of 24 November. Said folk have also discovered that the game is lacking online features and are receiving messages along the lines of ‘whatever you are trying to do can’t be done with this version of the game.’
It turns out that the retail version of the disc doesn’t include, or at least, doesn’t enable access to online features. This has been rectified by a patch – Gran Turismo 5 version 1.01 – which has allowed those reviewing the game to get some online play time before the review embargo’s are lifted on launch day.
Now before the trolls break loose, chanting cries of “lol broken gaem! GT5 sux” consider that Sony has possibly done this as a way of mitigating any attempts at GT5 piracy. Players will likely be forced to upgrade to version 1.01 upon inserting their disc, and therefore will have to log into PSN, something pirates obviously won’t be doing.
That could all be conjecture however, and perhaps the online component did need some final tweaks. Fans should take solace in the fact that the game was not delayed further to address the online issues.
Gran Turismo 5 will launch globally on 24 November 2010, exclusive to the PlayStation 3.
