One of DICE and EA’s prized possessions is the Frostbite Engine, which has powered everything from Battlefield 3 to Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel, and the studio and publisher duo are showcasing the third iteration of the engine ahead of its next-gen releases.

The team behind Frostbite 3 discuss the advantages and perks that the engine brings to the designers, allowing them to create much more realistic scenarios.

The engine is particularly effective with environmental changes, such as destruction to structures, manipulation of water and sharper and more authentic character models.

Frostbite 3 will power a number of next-gen games, such as Battlefield 4, Need for Speed Rivals and Mirror’s Edge 2.
