In news that just exploded out of nowhere, Microsoft has confirmed that South Africa now has dedicated servers for Gears of War 3.
“Dedicated servers now setup in South Africa, Brazil is testing right now. South Korea, Italy, and India in the works,” tweeted Chris Wynn, lead producer on Gears of War over at Microsoft Games Studios.
The Gears of War games have always been a little notorious for what scientists call the “Host Shotty Effect”, a phenomenon that granted peer-to-peer matchmaking hosts a slight advantage with the shotgun, instantly generating critically massive amounts of butthurt and ragequitting.
One of Gears of War 3’s big deals was the introduction of dedicated servers to resolve this, but up until now, South Africa was not included in the rollout plan.
Hopefully this should also sort out those long matchmaking times, because honestly, waiting five to ten minutes to get into a game kind of takes the edge off my bloodlust.
