With the Xbox One scheduled to arrive in SA on 23 September 2014, and following our international price comparison of the PS4, we decided to see home much more (or less) South Africans will pay for Microsoft’s new console when it goes on sale.
The standard 500GB console without Kinect and a single controller will sell for R6,299, while the addition of a Kinect will set you back R7,999 for the total package.
Both bundles come with two free digital games – Forza Motorsport 5 and Fifa 15; and Dance Central Spotlight and Fifa 15 respectively.
In the table below we have the international prices of the Xbox One by country and its converted Rand price (using the relevant exchange rates at the time of writing).
A straight comparison is not 100% definitive due to average salary levels in various countries (and the Xbox One′s price relative to those average salaries) not being equal. It also doesn’t take the effects of import duties and other taxes into account.
For example, US prices exclude sales taxes entirely as those may differ by State and city. In Germany, Australia, and Italy, though, the price includes VAT or sales tax.
When posting the international prices, we checked out several retailers in each country and calculated an average selling point.
