Thread of PC Woes, Troubles, Problems, and Issues

I dread if my PSU goes and takes my MB with...it will be a little pricey

This discussion got me thinking. If my PSU and/or components go pop due to loadshedding, can I claim it form insurance? It's damage to my property caused by an external source after all.

Yes you can. My PC is a specified item on my insurance due to its total replacement cost.

Mine is covered under household, as it does not leave the property, so they say. I actually queried this a little while ago as total replacement is close to 20k (if not more), they said I do not have to specify it.

New psu fitted, ran some games at 1080p to stress the cpu and gpu, no shutdowns yet, my analysis were spot on thus far.

Well... Remember how I told you guys that my PSU went BoooooM!!
This morning I went onto my Facebook, opened Coolermaster SOuth Africas Facebook page. And saw this

Seems as though our bonded solution is no longer a viable option, we may have to move to VDSL.

Apparently the exchange is no longer "compliant".

PsychoFish - for some unholy reason I cannot get VMware Workstation installed on my machine and having to use vSphere which is cumbersome. Do you know of maybe an alternative solution?

What do you want to achieve? Run VMs locally on your machine or manage a vCenter instance?

oh sorry, connecting to and managing a host with multiple VM's and at times I need to use the console to work on them as they aren't accessible via RDP. Will need to be able to use console, manage the VM, snapshots etc.

Just wondering if there are alternative connectivity solutions (seeing as I can't use Workstation).

vCenter 5.x or vCenter 6.x? You can use VMware vSphere Client on both, as well as a standalone ESX/ESXi instances. Alternatively the vSphere Web Client in vCenter 6.x works REALLY well.

You know, when I was in Operations I was above everything (firewalls, DNS servers, etc). Now that I am among the working class I am now experiencing all the issues that are affecting us (the business). From constant VPN disconnection and reconnections to constant DNS issues. This network is seriously a joke. And the worst is I sit here twiddling my thumbs waiting for services to be restored, when I ask the others they say "we've gotten used to it, just wait 25-30min for it to be restored".
