Morning all

I'll be at work tomorrow due to a plant outage that started today. I might end up at work on Saturday as well; so much for a public holiday. Luckily public holiday overtime is x2, but I'd much have the day off.

Funsies :( Who broke what?

So the client wanted modulating valves everywhere and now they're complaining that we're over budget.

Yeah always fun. I don't think anyone broke anything (this time), it is just to do some work which can only be done with half of the station off (due to some systems being common for half the station). This was difficult to accommodate in the past due to the lack of MW's in the grid, but now with the grid looking much better we have the opportunity to do it.

In other words, everyone putting on the heaters that caused Witbank's blackouts is helping you do maintenance? :D

I don't know where to put this, so I'm gonna say this here in TK. I want to address all the various underhanded and/or blatant comments made about the "clickbait" nature of some titles here on MyGaming. Firstly, let's get something clear, MyGaming has never used any clickbait titles. No, words like "Massive" and "Amazing" and others aren't clickbait words, they are adjectives. Ture Clickbait titles are titles that mislead the potential reader into reading or watching something only for the sake of making a profit from them. Clickbait is used by less than accurate and reputable outlets to get eyes on their content, and most of the articles or videos doesn't even have anything to do with the misleading clickbait title. For examples, just browse Buzzfeed or any Facebook timeline and look at the dribble that is there, with titles trying to lure you into reading something nonsensical and vapid.

Now, does MyGaming use rather flattering adjectives in their titles? Yes, yes they do, but the content of the articles are not dribble by any stretch of the imagination, nor does the headlines mislead the reader as to the topic of discussion. Reading the titles you are well aware of what will be discussed in the article, and any info is referenced where applicable. All of this is reputable, far away removed from the "clickbait" nature that people tend to say it uses.

But still, MyGaming uses more fragrant language in their titles. Language thats soul purpose is to get people to read the article. We all want MyGaming to do well, and to do that they need more and more readers, and one way of doing that is by getting people interested in articles by using the type of headlines they've been using lately. The content is still the same, and it honestly doesn't hurt anyone at all. The headlines doesn't make MyGaming any less reputable than it already is, and it has and should have no effect on any readers view of them. If the headlines are written in such a way that it draws in more readers without misleading or damaging the sites image, and the headlines has no impact on the quality, then I say go ahead and do just that. It's a damn competitive world out there, and this is a business, and it's not a bad thing that they want to draw in more eyes. It's not pandering to the lowest common denominator of human curiosity as what true clickbait actually does

Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest. It's been bugging me ever since I started seeing the comments more and more, not just here on the forum, but on the main site as well...

Well said. A headline has a twofold purpose: Tell the reader what the article is about, and to entice the reader to read the article. Using descriptive language is an excellent way to do this, but has unfortunately recently been associated with clickbaity articles on less than reputable sites. There is a difference though, and while MyGaming has certainly moved their flavour of language more in that clickbaity headlines' direction, it's a far cry from being guilty of anything. The quality of articles we've had lately should speak to that.

Can't rep unfortunately. Would have though.

I did on your behalf.

If this isn't a clickbait title, then I don't think there is such a thing.

No its not. It's perhaps not the best title chosen for that article, but its not clickbait.

"You'll never look at the Barbie doll the same once you see these paintings"

That is an example of clickbait. The crux of the word clickbait is to mislead. Mislead people into going to a website for the ad revenue. That title of MyGaming is by no means clickbait.

I agree, it's not the best chosen title perhaps, and lures people into reading the article, but the article doesn't mislead anyone into anything, nor does the title misrepresent the article.

And so what that MyGaming uses wording like that? Does it honestly bother people SOOOO much? And why does it bother people? It's not having any impact on the quality of the content, so no harm no foul

I can't find any reference where the definition for clickbait says that it has to be misleading. Perhaps you're confusing the term with "bait-and-switch"?
