Aren't the WebAfrica accounts both SAIX and IS? I read somewhere that it can be changed when necessary ... I'll try find the link.

They have IS only accounts.

Then they also have their own accounts, as was said there is a mark on the page to tell you it has free zone. These accounts can be used as SAIX (by appending .s to the end of the user name), but then will not count free zone usage.

Web Africa use to have multi-realm suppprt where you can switch between verizon / saix via the .v or .s option, bu they sent a mail out that they are discontinuing the ability to switch between realms... real bummer :(

one feature i'm going to miss as well. i hope their non multi-realm unshaped will be onpar...

The worst for me as a WoW gamer... is if there is problems on SAIX, we had the option to try an alternative network to still pitch up at raids. Now if there is problems on the network... we are screwed... oh well.
Not going to buy 2 / 3 different ISP accounts.

speaking of wow... that was my main motivation for getting multi realm :D. i would have to wonder if they did a consensus (i'll make a thread over at myBB in ISP section) how many would want this to go away.

Same... this was the sole reason I went with Webafrica. I have cancelled my WA subscription now, since there is no real benefit anymore.
Also their unshaped BW was pretty expensive. Think I ended up spending 3 gigs a month on unshaped BW.

current (non WA reply) state and what you can do for now.

Hey Shad0wstr1k3, here's what's up so far:

- WA content server launched. According to WA, all data downloaded via Steam, whether through the international content servers or the two local content servers (IS and WA), should count towards FreeZone. Local servers should be given priority, though, if your download region is set to "Africa" in the Steam settings.

- Users who started downloading from Steam discovered that not all their downloads were counting towards FreeZone.

- Some started using Steamwatch to force Steam to download only from the WA server. It seems to be confirmed that all data downloaded from the WA server counts correctly to FreeZone, which means that it is content downloaded from the international servers and the IS server that is not reliably counting towards FZ. This was also confirmed by Vdr who used a new 1GB account to test whether it was just an issue with the stats not displaying correctly (in which case he wouldn't be capped), or whether the servers weren't being allocated to FreeZone correctly at all (in which case he would be capped) - he was capped. pevans_om's experiments seem to suggest, however, that some of the international downloads are being allocated to FZ.

- Not all of the content is available on the WA server yet. This was confirmed by the WA guys. Approx. 400GB failed the verification and needs to be re-download. We are not sure if that is being downloaded now, or how far along it is.

I think that's it, anything I missed? (and yes, I am a bit bored at the moment or avoiding some work I don't feel like doing...)

Anyway, you'll need SteamWatch 3 to force Steam to download from the WA server. Just google it and you'll find the download link, then install and run it. Right click on the tray icon, select "Edit SteamWatchSettings.xml" which will open that file in Notepad. At the bottom there is a list of entries surrounded by <address> tags. Delete all of them except one and replace the IP with the IP for the WA server, so that it looks like this:

<address>41.185.60.43</address>

Save the file. Restart SteamWatch (with the "Stop" and "Start" commands in the right-click menu) and then start Steam. And then it should work - providing Steam isn't being stubborn and actually finds the WA server, and if the content you want to download is on the WA server.

Just to add, you may need to start Steam without Steamwatch and start a download to get the Steam app to detect the WA server. Once the Steam app discovers the server then you start the steam watch service to block all the others. This may be necessary for the first time only.

(thx pevans_om)

Excellent info Necuno. However, not knowing if the stuff you want is being hosted is a problem.

Would be great if there were some sort of list detailing exactly what is and what is not available via Freezone.
