World of Warcraft - General Discussion

I've played Alliance since starting WoW about 2 years ago. One of the reasons that I never really played Horde is because leveling is a pain for me, especially the vanilla content. My main alt is now 78, and I started that character about 6 months ago. With the changes coming in Cataclysm, I might just try again to level a Horde.

As for the whole BG thing, I think it might be to do with the UK battlegroups playing against the German battlegroups. On my realm Alliance get steamrolled with battlegrounds, but we win WG most of the time. Problem is that since I dont have a 80 Horde character, I can't really say how the BG's go for their side. Maybe they get steamrolled by german Alliance players the whole time.

I'm pretty sure we're getting shafted with all those bloody Italians in our battlegroup being such a bunch of lolfags. Ruin is getting owned by the germans, both alliance and horde.

Quick question - what is the average latency you guys usually get when playing WoW. I'm assuming Euro servers here, but in reality I have no idea where the servers are located? Just mention your line-speed & connection type as well - I'm busy trying to run some comparisons.

On 3g 2bars HSUPA in JHB

500ms without proxy
290ms with proxy tunnel

I'm getting about 400-500 on average with no proxy tunnel, but I have an odd situation. Wireless connection to another guy with the ADSL connection (4mb uncapped). On the 3G (3.6) I get slightly higher, around 600-700. I haven't tried my 3G 7.2 modem yet, since it doesn't agree with my Win7.

As for where the servers are located, it depends on the server. Most are in Paris, I think, but there are some in Stockholme, Dusseldorf and Frankfurt.
Here is a list of English EU servers and their locations, server type and IP.

On a Telkom 5GB account 600-800ms.
On an Axxess 626 account 800-1200ms.
On a WebAfrica Shaped account.... 280-400ms.

More affordable WA prepaid please... :)

Some latency Testing I did from this post:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?229114-Ping-Tests-to-US-East-Cost-Servers-WoW

Web Africa Unshapped (PrePaid)
557 - Strait Ping
384 - Proxied via "Lower Ping"

Afrihost Unshapped
587 - Strait Ping
324 - Proxied via "Lower Ping"

Afrihost Uncapped
729 - Strait Ping
387 - Proxied via "Lower Ping"

Saol 10gb +4mb (not tested by me)
Mid day Sunday SA Time / Morning server time
1200 - Strait Ping
850 - Proxied via "Lower Ping"

I also added Leetrix Latency Trick recently and got my US ping down to even lower 300s
I will be testing more options and different locations as well.

Some latencies I've been experiencing recently with mweb 384 range between 310-410ms, depending on time of day and ofcourse wether or not my brother is also playing or not

What I just read in this months PC Format, put me off the idea of the iPad. Doesnt sound like it could handle any game, never mind Warcraft. Lack of flash is also a big prob. Just sounds like a gimmick that isnt worth getting

Your wishes have been granted - http://www.webafrica.co.za/adsl/titan_dsl_special (Okay ... its not prepaid, but whatever :p )

Signed up with them - uncapped would be nice, but I've been hearing horror-stories about speeds and latency - kind of expected I suppose.

You dont want to go uncapped. Those Titan specials is where its at, I think. I have heard so many people bitching and moaning about these so called "uncapped" accounts. If you game, Its not really an option due to latency. Plus, you get the bandwidth hogs who sit online and download 24/7 and we wonder why the internet is broken.

Webafrica's prepaid is still incredibly expensive, but their complete and data packages are incredibly cheap compared to what it used to be. Sure, its not as cheap as the "uncapped" specials etc. But at least you get really good gaming performance, plus Freezone.

I doubt they will offer "uncapped" they saw this coming and probably realized that there were quite a few probs with it.

There have been some latency issues over the last few days espesh with Mweb and Afrihost, but there have been the occasional lag spike on WA aswell. But this is probably due to the IS and Seacom thing

Hi there :)

Selling Horde Vinyls 11 x 14cm approx. They can be used as a sticker. They are suited for car or outdoor purposes as well as (what ive seen being done) sticking on side of PC case, on wall etc. It is weather resistant and the colour will last long. If no longer desired can be removed easily.

R25 each, what stock I have left is going fast so get your hands on one soon.

I am very much for the horde, but if i get enough requests for an Alliance version I will organize accordingly.

The picture attached is what it looks like exactly.
Can post to anywhere in South Africa with snail mail, feel free to pay extra if you want it express.

email me.

Taken the plunge & finally got adsl so now I can download the updates. Worst installation procedure i`ve ever experienced from any software.. ever.

do
Launch the game, mandatory scroll through 3 EULAs, login, download updater, update to next version
loop until head explodes

Installed from a vanilla version though, will see how it goes and then get burning crusade.

2nd impression: boring as hell, but I can`t stop myself from logging in. lvl 11 now

Weird. Normally the launcher will check for updates, so you don't need to start the game yet. Unless you started it and immediately clicked play before it managed to check.

The first part of the game is boring, specially the vanilla areas. The draenei and blood elf starter areas is better though. From 20 the game should pick up a bit more pace. From 60 it goes a lot faster when you hit Outland and from 70 it's Northrend. And the game really starts at 80 when you have to run HC's to get emblems, gear up for raids and finally do some raids..

How long does it take a noob to reach level 80?

Depends on how seriously you try to level and how much time you put in. Seems for speed leveling, you're looking at 48 hours of active playing, but you'll probably need a good idea of what to do and where to go.

I was never good at leveling quickly, so I'm not sure what to do for certain. I would suggest queuing for dungeons using the random LFG tool, and while waiting, do quests. If you keep the quests difficulty color on orange and yellow it will give you a decent amount of xp. The dungeon tool will queue you for dungeons for your level.

If you're not sure what to do for a quest/instance, go to sites like wowhead and thottbot and read up about it. Wowhead is quite useful if you are looking at things like drop rate, etc.

Only 48? No way dude. Then there must be a lot more wrong with me than previously anticipated. The quickest I've seen someone level (someone with 5 lvl80s already and knows the layout & quests) it took him 3 weeks of playing about 5-8hrs a day. So roughly 120-140hrs.

Like I said, I'm no good at it :(. I did some searching and it seems that some people managed that, at least they claim. It might be with heirlooms though.
I agree that your numbers are a lot more likely. My first 80 took me a couple of months and my second wasn't much better :o

I believe the speed levelling you are referring to is with RaF, if you have a tank with you in the party = instant group with dungeon finder = 1 maybe 2 levels per dungeon

Levelling time really depends from class to class and player to player.

If you want to stop to smell the roses and see the vast areas in Azeroth (which you really should do on your first toon), it could take quite a while.

Knowing exactly where to go and what to do and having multiple heirloom (Bind on Account) items....
I got my 3rd toon (rogue - now main) 1-80 in 7 play days (168 hours +-).

(Obviously, using RAF means you can get the horrid 1-60 grind done in no time)
