MWEB peering changes may effect local gaming

SEACOM also terminates somewhere in India, so in some cases data may come through there.

It's really funny to think that MWEB finds it cheaper to send local data traffic to London and back again, than to peer directly with another local provider. Probably indicates just how much these guys are charging for local transit - it's ridiculous. I applaud them for making a stand.

Yeah, India and France I think. Though they have links going to London for PoPs or peering or some such thing. I'm not really that clued up on it.

Still, I agree that it is ridiculous that routing info half way across the world is cheaper than using a local network. Madness.

I really thought that Igame will be fast but then again I didn't know they rely on vodacom so omw this is really bad

International traffic won't behave any differently than it currently does. Its only traffic to content hosted within Telkom, MTN and Vodacom's networks (the fatcats that are overcharging for local peering and driving up bandwidth costs to line their pockets) that will be routed internationally instead of locally.

This is such a lag (afrikaans for laugh; excuse the pun in english :p) that they have to realize soon how ridiculous this is. Friggin' money grubbing crackers!

I'm sure this will still cost other ISPs less, to have their traffic routing internationally to get to local destinations, than to be paying those ridiculous peering costs? Of course with the increased latency being the downside, but now these guys must start realizing that they are holding SA broadband back even more than they previously had.

haven't noticed any changes just yet in BC2 either...

Same here, just jamming away happily.

I think it's awesome what Mweb is doing. Now I just wish that the major players like Telkom and MTN starts playing with. It will be a great step forward for South African bandwidth.

It's just sad that all the "major players" play dirty.
