Windows 7 RC

Well Microsoft is making a much bigger push with windows 7 then they did with vista. Probably to try and "Cover Up" the Mess that vista is. They even had the API's available for developers about 3 months
 
Well there was that punkbuster issue a while back, it was fixed after some time though. But that's the thing, it ran fine in Vista but bugged out in Windows 7 so that the kind of issue that worries me you see.

Correction, "the mess that Vista was". Pre SP1 it was a mess, but since then it's not. Drivers have also matured since Vista's early days which wasn't Micrsofts fault in the first place.

SP1 completely and utterly messed up my installation of Vista, requiring me to take said laptop to a PC store in order for them to format the hard drive and install Vista (considering it didn't come with a copy of the OS). After that and having finally gotten SP1 installed properly, I've had driver issue after driver issue on Vista. I was actually a fan of it more before SP1 than after :(
 
Strange, both my brother and I are running SP1 with 0 issues. Pre SP1 Vista has really slow copy speeds, especially over a network. Those driver issues are a fault with the driver manufacturer rather than with Vista its self.
 
i'm actually amazed that upgrade from vista 64 to win7 64 just worked. going for upgrade from 32 to 64 if time permits it at work today, yes one can do it with mayor trick.
 
i am going to install it this weekend any suprises i should look out for
currently running vista 32bit going to 64bit and 8 gigs of ram i got yesterday i cant w8 :D

Quick question (sorry for the double post):

How exactly does one go about burning the RC to DVD that it works properly? Apparently you're supposed to burn it in .iso form or something? I got my copy from someone else and I'm finding out on behalf of another person so I don't have the files in front of me. A nice clear process would be awesome, thanks!

open the iso file with something like imageburn or nero. then just write it to dvd.
 
The iso I have needs to be extracted (read: copy contents of the iso after mounting and pasting) to the partition where your OS is installed, then just running the setup

and how do you run a 64bit setup exe in a 32bit os ? not all cases you can do that...
 
After a looong wait of downloading....
I discover I've downloaded the 64bit version... sigh... Virtual PC don't support it...
But I'm gonna get VMWare...
 
Funnily enough, I had better luck burning my copy of Windows 7 x64 in Ubuntu 8.10 than I had in Windows XP Home.

I have been using Windows 7 x64 RC1 now and am quite happy with it.
I shall certainly buy one of the cheaper editions when it is released.
