Star Wars: The Old Republic

I don't see a proper topic about this yet, so thought of making one. Who else is going to play this? Looks pretty amazing imo, especially the "fully voice mmo" feature. I'm a big fan of Bioware games, and this might just end up being one epic mmo. My only concerns really are the endgame factors, mostly pvp. But suppose we will have to wait and see.

I saw those before I made this topic, Prophet, but thanks. I am making this one anyway, seeing as all those different intentions. This one is just to have a general conversation about the game, and about who will actually be playing. Seen any of those topics yet? I don't. I could even say the same for you, with your Rift topic, as there have been some before yours. But new threads don't hurt right?! lol.

you did note use of :D and not the lack there of ? no one is fighting with you :)

To be perfectly honest, I kinda think the game in its current iteration is somewhat flimsy...the combat looks a little lackluster :( However, it still has some time to go. So hopefully it gets to the level of epic it deserves.

I completely agree! A lightsabre should slice cleanly through bodies! It should cauterise wounds! I DEMAND MORE BELIEVABLE GORE!

go play mortal or conan :p. I don't see this rising above star trek online, I can't help the feeling that it would either be on par or below par with it.

Played Conan, it sucked.

As for rising above STO, just based purely on trailers, dev diaries and gameplay footage, it already has.

Can remember how pumped I was for STO (based on trailers) and then finding out how shallow it was (based on actual gameplay).

Really? The trailers had an opposite effect on me :p I didn't buy it because of the trailers :)

Trial just confirmed suspicions.

As for Old Republic, I've yet to hear a single really bad thing about it. Things I don't like are basically superficial (i.e. lack of gore :().

lol. well we see how it pans out, but going by the mmos so far out and new i can't say that i'm still as stoked as i was before especially after they declared "we won't break wow rules".

Depends on what is considered "WoW rules." What made WoW so appealing was the means to show-off (Armoury, et al) as well as its ease-of-access. For the most part, I'm inclined to think that the lack of gore in SWOR is part of that (appealing to 12+ ratings). However, in ways that it differs (significantly) from WoW is in choices, immersion, NPC companions, voice-overs, tactical approach to missioning.

Really, I would like one legitimate reason that would indicate that this MMO is going to be a flop. So far, to me, it's the perfect mix of what makes both MMOs and single-player games so appealing.

I would be very surprised if it ends up being a bust. It stands to be the one game that revolutionises MMOs as we know them today. The MMO market is stale, it needs something challenging, risky and innovative to nudge it into advancing some more. I sincerely hope that SWOR will be that game and for the most part, I believe it will be.

agreed. rift was already a step in the correct direction, see how gw2 turns out.

I for one can't wait for this game!! I am a MASSIVE fan of anything Star Wars so naturally this is on my list!
I've read and watched all things Old Republic and I must say it has just made me soooo lis for it :D!! The combat could be smoother but I don't think it will be a problem if it stays as is. PLUS (As Gimaru mentioned) it's a BioWare game and I'm a massive fan of theirs (Even though DA2 SUCKED BALLS)!

It just looks EPIC and the Sith so bad-ass who would not want to buy this and play as them :D?!

*cough* Jedi Consular over here :D

Although I have to agree with you, I see the entirety of Old Republic being swarmed by Jedi and Sith for the first while :p I mean really, who wants to play as a bounty hunter or smuggler?

Let it not turn out as FF14 did form the infallible square enix.

Obviously going to give it a spin I'm just a little cautious not to throw out all logic and deem kotor mmo the second coming as many mmos claimed, but failed utterly.

I would wonder what the size of this install is going to be if everything is voiced over. I hope at least it also scales good on most pcs, but still looks decent.

Sith Warrior going to be my main here. Makes me want to play kotor again while waiting for release :P
