The Witcher 2 Chat Thread

Yep. But that would be my third play through. Might wait until some DLC hits though. If the current 'integration' method is used for future DLC, then you'd have to play though the game from scratch to access them.

Well, I don't believe in falling for a game because there was media hype around it. Even if I have been waiting for 2nd installment of TW. I remember TW, when it came out, minimal press coverage, except a review I read in PCF. Though now that the hype concerning the immediate release of TW2 is over, I can look at purchasing a copy.

I mean why is it that only CDPROJEKT (In RPG terms) put this amount of care into their games?!

are you saying Bethesda doesn't put lots of work into their games? Can't say Im not excited about what I've heard getting put into skyrim. oblivion was cool, though I lost interest halfway through. Lets wait and see, and try not to climb onto the 'hype wagon' unless the game has been released and its awesome.

Now about witcher 2, are you enjoying it?

CdProject is where Blizzard was when they made Warcraft 2 . Kind of an indie company, without an EA/Activision watching over their shoulders. They can kinda make "their" game, not a game "that will raise profits by 10% from last year" .

Bioware was there at some stage too, but now they're just milking as much as possible. They are making games that are profitable and mainstream, not necessarily "brilliant" games. Dragon Age 2 is proof of that.

You're welcome to use my Witcher 1 save?

Details that I can recall:
Sided with Squirrels from the start
Acquired Raven's armour (elf-made)
Saved Abigail from the mental villagers
Saved Adda from the curse
Protected the mutagens in the laboratory with Triss at the beginning
Kept Berengar alive and protected him during battle with Javed
Helped the humans and vodyanoi become friendly in Lakeside
Saved the woodcutters by having them offer the leader's axe to the Vodyanoi
Killed Gramps the cannibal
Never killed wittle doggies for ebil dog tallow!
Engaged in a committed relationship with Triss, pissing Shani off a little, but she gets over it :p
Defeated the wild hunt (stopped him from killing the Order's guild master whose name I can't recall.)
All quests were done and dusted.

That's about all I can remember, feel free to ask should you remember something I don't :o

Jeez, thanks for the offer :D And for the effort of uploading the save. I'm quite surprised that you could remember the first game in such detail. Do those events get referenced in the sequel, if you loaded an old save? Do you feel that any of your past decisions have affected the progress of the sequel?

That's very similar to my most recent playthrough and the savegame I imported to Withcer 2. :)

Except I didn't kill Gramps or save the woodcutters. I also killed the Grandmaster of the Order of the Flaming Rose at the end as well as the wild hunt. Not 100% sure, but if memory serves me right his name was Jacques de Aldersberg (spoiler: who I'm also about 90% sure was Alvin)

Any time. I decided to play through it one more time for the save before starting Witcher 2.

There are some references to decisions you've made, yeah but when importing a save it doesn't give you a list of things you've done, no :p

Also, the save includes the silver sword given to you from the Lady of the Lake :p

Grandmaster, guildmaster, whatever :p I've been on-again/off-again playing Fable 3 :x

But yes, that one!

And yes, the whole fight at the end, I fought the King of the Wild Hunt for er.. "the right" to kill Jacques myself :3

Will people please try get the name right? CDPROJEKT with a k, not a c. This is mainly because, they are not english, only reason we get the game in english is because they are so awesome.

I guess you are right about the rest though. Though I doubt a company in warsaw, (middle of russian federation?) will ever get support from ea, simply because they work differently, wouldnt want someone bossing them around. (I can't imagine a russian taking orders well from an american xD)

CDProjket can, I'm sure go without getting gobbled up and keep on doing their thing. Bioware has yet to release something that was of the likes as in it's day and time as baldurs gate was. Sure some of their titles was good, but not imho as good- that was Black Isle not Bioware.

Bioware was from the start as westwood was after they got gobbled up just not as daft as they are now. There is still hope, though I would say that they have their "best" working on the mmo, then next "best" on masseffect ( which we now know will also be mainstream shitty ) and finally left overs are assigned to dragon age 3.

One can hope that maybe they could redeem themselves somehow with da3...

...I would say that a company could still deliver as dead space 2 was everything and more that dead space 1 was. They even had a separate lighting team to do just that.

Erm... CD Projekt RED are Polish. Warsaw is in Poland. In Poland they speak Polish. Poland is also a member of the European Union. Poland borders Germany, Belarus, the Ukraine and Lithuania.

Poland is not, actually, part of the Russian Federation.

Just by the way.

If you're going to be pedantic about the name, you may as well be pedantic about the other, evidently less significant, details :)

I checked a video for this and looks really interesting...
Did not play the first one though :/ does the second one follow the first?

It's a continuation of themes from the first game (humans vs non-humans, Geralt's amnesia and dealings with the Wild Hunt, the attempt on Foltest's life at the end of the first game, etc). You could probably jump in without a clue and figure it out along the way but I would say start from the beginning if only just to develop an idea of the background and experience how the series has changed since the first game.

CD Projekt is in a much better position then Bioware thought to resist EA. Unlike Bioware who only relied on their games CD Projekt has the biggest games publishing in Eastern Europe and their is also their gog system. The company has actually been around since 1994 but only started developing games in 2002.

A new Witcher game will be announced at E3 next month, developer CD Projekt has told Eurogamer.

Could it possibly be the mooted console version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings? Senior producer Tomasz Gop wasn't giving much away, but did hint that CD Projekt might have good news for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 users.

"I can't say anything obviously for gazillions of reasons but it is a Witcher game, and I can say that console gamers might be interested in it," he explained.

:D:D:D:D

I say BRING IT!

However, I'm kinda sick of the consoleification of it. I have no issue offering a console-bred experience for console players but FFS, it's the PC gamers buying your (currently) PC game, so why didn't we get a PC-bred UI? Yeuuugh. Not a fan.

Couldn't agree more, the UI in this game is very clumsy. I'm getting used to the arse combat targeting system by just adopting a "grin and bear it" approach, but I still find it frustrating. Near the end of act1 when I had to search the room, rather than being able to mouse-scan around for clues (admittedly not the slickest concept either) I had to run around like a drunken idiot, turning aimlessly and bumping into stuff waiting for that loot/search icon to pop up.

Game should have been optimized for a PC first and foremost since that's the platform of the initial release, and ported to console if necessary. Goodness knows we've had enough console ports to PC!

The Witcher 2 on consoles would be awesome, the more people that get to play this brilliant game the better. But what would really be awesome is if they announce that this game is not The Witcher 2 (at first) but rather the ressurection of Rise of the White Wolf. Can't wait for E3 so I can know already.

Hi guys,

Haven't gone through all 42 pages of replies, so i apologize if this has been covered before.

Difficulty settings - I have been switching between easy and normal difficulty mainly due to the combat mechanic but have noticed no change in the minigames (ex fighting) when I up the difficulty, even to max.
Am i missing something ?

There's an option inside the settings tab for 'easier QTEs'?
Think its called complex quick time events or something
Don't think the diff slider effects the mini-games at all

I really am enjoying the game. Just got my silver sword back so still early in the game.
One thing I do want to know from people, in the first game the dice game was better but I played a dice game against somebody yesterday and got a 1,2,3,4,5. As far as I remember that beats a triple. Or at least it did in the first one, has anybody else noticed this?
