Witcher 2 is intentionally "hardcore" says developer

Oh please, don't TOUCH the difficulty. It's perfect!

Can't wait for the patch or even some bleeding patch notes. Details, CDPR, I demand details!

As the old saying goes 'if you try and please everyone all the time, you will probably end up pleasing no one at all'. At least they are true to what they set out to create, invest some time in the game and you will reap the rewards.

This!

I personally feel that as long as they stay true to themselves, their vision and what they believe makes a great experience while taking no quarter then I support them fully. They haven't let me down yet :D

Still feel the need to whine about the terribly simplified inventory/journal/codex/etc at every opportunity but that's my only complaint.

I guess if you make it more complex you then it would probably be lost on many players?

It depends on the market you intend to target. If you're trying to entice a more sophisticated market then simplification is going to be your downfall. On the one hand you target a market that is demanding and knows what it wants (read: a reliable market) on the other hand you're targeting a very volatile and unreliable market either financially or because they're just capricious like that.

Stick to what you're good at and make a name and renown for yourself because the one market will grow to become demanding and loyal but once you lose that loyal market, they're gone.

I hear you.......while the theme/tone/story of the game may be sophisticated your average player is not. I guess if you head of in the Gothic direction, then it almost becomes niche.

BTW - how many 18 year old gamers would you classify as sophisticated :p

Well, yes. I love the Gothic direction, I loved the difficulty and how rewarding the entire experience was. I feel a very strong connection to The Witcher there and while it is a bit of a niche, it's a very successful and I feel a very sought after one.

Look at what happened when ol' JoWood tried changing the recipe with ArcaniA. I still chuckle each time I think of that. CD Projekt have shown them how it's done, have even laughed in the face of BioWare.

I'm incredibly proud of them and incredibly proud to have been part of their support right from the first game.

Pff... Not many. I just meant more regarding their gaming appetite than their actual er... selves :p

So they don't want it to play like an interactive movie? Is it just my mind or was that a not so subtle dig at one Fable 3?

You could say it's a dig at Heavy Rain too.

CDProjekt has yet to fail to deliver, I'm sure they will be trying to iron out most if not all of the teething problems that goes with the release. Would be awesome if they do include a few surprise extra's :) Like Lycanthrope says... Details! We want DETAILS!! :D

Absolutely love this game. Difficulty is spot on. Even back in Witcher 1 playing on hard required constant use of alchemy and items. People have been saturated for too long with easy games. You want easy, play on easy. Props CD Projekt! Keep on doing what you doing according to your ideals!

100%, I've been playing this game on Hard and while I have been struggling. It just feels so much better to get the full enjoyment out of a game. My second play through will be on easy, just so that I can see the different choices etc..

The thing with people complaining that it's too hard, even on easy. Is as you pointed out, they're all used to it. But another thing is that people just want to steam roll through the game to finish it. They play to finish the game, not play to play the game.

I also don't understand why some people are struggling with the QTE's? They are ridiculously easy! I've never lost a single fist fight.

Did the Chiefmince generation make a stink about difficulty levels again?

The Witcher 1's combat system was awesome...having to click attacks in rhythm in order to get combo's sorted etc gave it a nice feel. I'm yet to purchase TW_2 (but not before getting a new GFX card) so I'm not sure how much the new battle system compares, but kudos to CD_Projekt for not making it for sissies.

Sounds like I'm missing out bigtime with not having this game.

Oh well, as my financial constraints go atm, I will just have to wait for it to go on a massive special on Steam before I will have it.

I really like their no compromise stance towards the game as a whole. They had a vision for the game and either it was done their way or not at all. It makes it a little less accessible, but its also what makes it so good.

I just wonder if it will be like Starcraft 2 where you have to download the patch before you can carry on playing
