Call of Duty Elite - paid subscription service revealed

first thing i noticed was the use of the words "BS" or "WTF" in BFBC2 were scarce, yes they were there but FAR LESS prominent!

I am REALLY not trying to start a flame war here, but thats the COD side of Battlefield coming out. Or its influence.

In BF2, the grandaddy of Battlefield games, bad language was not tolerated (lncluding acronyms). Admins monitored servers actively and actually cared. Players cared. People wanted to have a good time. Griefers were shown the door.

If we can somehow work out a similar structure for BF3, using responsible and respected players to monitor while playing the game they love, the community will thrive.

Except it was made by a new unknown developer. This is Dice we're talking about, they made the fantastic Bad Company 2. I have faith they can pull off their goals and judging by the footage I've seen so far it's going to awesome. :D

Did you play BF2 at all? If you thought BC2 was a gem for its time, BF2 made it look dismal in gameplay comparison (my 2c).

(i know i am hugely pro-BF2. But it being my first online FPS and me sinking 2500+ hours into it, how successful the competitive side was, it succeeding for a 5 years (!!!) AND me still having the friends I made THEN from my first days running around as a noobcake... It wins ).

Dude, I think everyone knows BC2 was just a spin-off game, but the point it- it was SO good, even for a spin-off, that it could easily stand alone as one of the best games of the last 2 years, EVEN if it didn't have enough depth as BF2, or even BF3 for that matter! Just imagine what that is going to be like?! :O

Point is, DICE makes game's for it's community and people that really want to have a good time go play battlefield games :D

Not really interested. On top of XBOX LIVE subscription? No ways. Kotick is really trying to milk gamers for all their money's worth. I remember when COD4 cost me R499.99 on Xbox360. Rather play BF3.

Everyone just wants a piece of the recurring revenue pie. I sincerely hope people are not going to support this.

i guess after this and i don't think the other online fps won't go a similar route, we are at the point where they will charge an online fee to play. maybe not yet in the same amounts at mmos, but it's here.

now question is, will you be paying to play your favourite fps ?
QUAKE LIVE is back online after some scheduled maintenance for the formerly free online shooter. The new juice for the game seems to be the new pay subscription options ('Standard' QUAKE LIVE play remains free) where you'll get more maps, a new mode (Freeze Tag) and more fun features. So...it starts. Welcome to the monopolization of multiplayer in it's most basic form. As said earlier, you can play without paying, but most of the maps will be on the pay-to-play side (or the most enjoyable ones I bet).

I do wonder where this will lead. It is only step away from complete paid multiplayer. This ain't even an MMO!

I do hope for the sake of online gaming that this ends in such a dismal failure that no publishers so much as mention this under their breathe in back alleys for years.

I hope so too. I don't mind COD going over to the corporate darkside but I'll cry if something like the BF franchise starts doing the same

Im a huge cod fan but as much as i enjoy the game i would never see me buying a membership to play online!
If they decide to go ahead with this they loose all respect and following from most if not all die hard cod players.
bad step
