So who's getting Dark Souls?

Taking a break from this for a while. Picked up Dead Rising 2 Off the Record yesterday. I have to say, it's the perfect game to have for those times that Dark Souls makes you want to kill something or someone. Just running around smashing zombie faces in with random objects. :p

So last night I beat the Gaping Dragon and got the key to Blighttown (he wasn't that hard :p). Before continuing I'm going to head back to Darkroot Garden and do some clean up before continuing down into hell. :)

heheh :-) thats the brilliance of the game. you will hit the lowest of lows when the game is kicking you in the balls. but you will hit highs when it all clicks!

Faced off with the Ghosts in the New Lordon (SP) ruins, which I couldn't even damage. Also tried the Dragons in Vale of Drakes and got my ass handed to me. Will decide what to do tonight.

I used the sword, but the mage that I summoned to help me did most of the damage. :p

You see, I tried killing it with my sword but it always kills me before it lands on the bridge !

You need to be cursed if you want to fight the ghosts :).

Dunno what that means yet... I'll farm souls tonight to unlock that door in Darkroot garden before taking on the Carpa Demon again.

It's an item you need to use that allows you to kill ghosts for a period of time. You find some in a barrel on you way down there. I ventured down there some time ago and was brutally killed about 30 minutes in. I decided to leave it alone for now :).

Funny Story... I actually have 2 of those items on me. :p

Spent the evening going deeper into the dark root garden, Killed the butterfly boss on second try - bow/sword combo together with well timed dodging won out in the end. Then farmed those giant stone knights a bit to get my stats high enough that I can wield the black knight sword (which does 265 +/- damage in my char's hands) one handed. Now I am torn between using the Drake Sword (which does a level 200 damage) and the Black Knight Sword. What the Drake sword lacks in punch it makes up for in speed, switching to the BKS is a huge adjustment as it has a much lower attack speed... decisions decisions. Got that basement key so I'll head there tomorrow night.

Tried taking on that Hydra but even with my strongest Magic resident armor i couldn't get close enough to take it out. Maybe it's time I paid the Carpa Demon Another visit....

I declare this thread evil, now DS been on my mind a lot and is going to weigh in on my pockets

If you think this thread dominates your mind wait until you actually play the game, it worms its way under your skin and will occupy your every waking moment.

Is this game worth getting?

Depends on what you are looking for. If you're looking for an absorbing, brutally difficult yet unbelievably satisfying hack and slash RPG then yes. Otherwise stay far far away.

The games motto is "Prepare to die", so take that into consideration. :)

depends on your level of patience. The game is not difficult in an annoying of cheap way. If and when you die, its almost always due to your own shortcomings. but as long as you learn from your mistakes and don't repeat them, you will be fine. you just need to be patient and cautious. the run-hack-slash mentality will get you killed, really quickly.

but one thing this game has which i have not found in any other game (apart from its predecessor) is a constant tide of despondancy and elation. when you walk into a new area, you will feel nervous and afraid and disheartened. surely there is no way you can overcome those odds, right? but after some cautious and clever probing you make your way forward. after a while, you will have conquered the area and unlocked a new shortcut. the fact that you overcame a seemingly insurmountable obstacle makes it even more satisfying :-)

and then you head to a new area and the cycle begins anew ;-)

I find myself walking slowly with my shield up, always checking around corners, looking for possible traps or pitfalls. It's an anxious experience going into a new area. :)

I eventually fought the frog things that spew smoke that can curse you. I approached them so cautiously, running away the moment I realised I wouldn't hit them in time to stop them from spewing out the smoke.

It's a frightening game for sure. :p

I do the same thing.

Getting my ass handed to me by a club wielding knight in the watchtower basement, 1 hit drains my stamina the follow up kills me :/

Hm, haven't met that one yet. Our internet has been off the last two days (due to the idiots who work at Telscum). I don't wan't to play the game in offline mode so I haven't been able to play since Monday.

Tonight however if our internet is still off I will be using my phones wifi adhoc to get some time in. Must, play, more...
