Dota 2

I think that was more the point of dota 2, keep the old gameplay that everybody loves and just update the gfx to keep it fresh, heard it was f2p to but im also doubtful, lol your friend have another beta key they want to give away? :D

their algorithm seems a bit dodge. if you randomly go through the winners list, you'll see a lot of winners that only made one or two posts ever and some even that spammed the competition thread and still won keys. gives little hope :(
 
Yeah as it stands now, I will never be able to play DotA 2 since beta keys are like a commodity and so scarce...

not really... although yeah, in some ways. The engine they're using is different, so it'll feel a little different, and the fact that it's Valve will mean proper updates and some interesting new tweaks to the game.

Seriously hoping they'll keep it LAN. Valve hopefully does take that into consideration

It's still going to be a while, there are still like 30+ heroes they need to implement, tons of features that are in the UI and not implemented and updating the UI itself.
 
I'm giving up on getting a Beta Key...

I don't care any more. I have entered every contest, posted like crazy everywhere even emailed Gabe Newell and asked if he might be kind enough to send me a key.

I haven't gotten a key yet and I'm tired of trying... I also assume there is no such thing as a buddy for DotA 2 right? This is the only game I want to play, don't care about LOL, don't like HoN, just want DotA 2...

Why world why...?

I got one the weekend. Only played 1 game. Tbh it feels a bit weird still. More like LOL than Dota 1 atm. Guess its a bit like getting used to a new game. I did feel a bit of delay, something I'm not used to with Dota
 
Any idea if there will be locally hosted servers? I was really enjoying HoN until S2 decided to get over SA servers and the servers were shut down =/

Has very little in common with LoL. Only really big gameplay change from DOTA to DOTA2 is that DOTA2 has a 40% increased Field of View.

As for the lag, I dunno I've played quite a bit of LoL and now some DOTA2 so I guess I just don't notice it any more. Not sure if they will let 3rd parties host servers, this is Valve though so it is possible. Not too sure how that would work though since 'ranked' games are played through matchmaking.

Lets be honest here. It looks more like LoL (not a fan) than DOTA if you consider the general gfx style. Gameplay is still DOTA (played it since 5.something)

And it just feels a bit different to me, but atm I think its the latency. Consider that to EU you will not get under 200ms where I used to like 1ms.

I think you are just used to the lag, something that will come with time I guess. Still will never like it as it can just make u sux more.
Would be great if we can get something local and have decent latency.
