RPG Nerds Lend Me Your Ears!

Well of all the reviews I've seen or read, this game does nothing really new or innovative for the genre with the exception of a slightly deeper combat system for an RPG. I think I'll wait for this to go budget price and rather carry on with Dark Souls in the interim, until Mass Effect 3 arrives.

To everyone/anyone getting this game for Xbox.. Can u please play it for a while n then post what u think of it..? I don't trust those critics..:) Thanx!.:)

I think "slightly deeper combat system" is a hell of an understatement. I finished the demo 6 times and I can tell you now that almost no other RPG can come close to it when it comes to combat. But to each his own ...

Combat is definitely one feature that is a major pull for me, that and Salvatore; I love his particular brand of High Fantasy.

You really thought it was that good? To me it felt floaty and loose and there's no really depth to the combo's, you just spam one button. Maybe I'm unfairly comparing it to games like God of War and Ninja Gaiden, but this is essentially what they are competing against on that front, not RPG's and as such the combat is mostly meh...

Don't you think it's a little unfair comparing a action RPG to flatout action games like God of War and Ninja Gaiden? The Witcher 1 (haven't played 2) used a timed single click combat mechanic, with Amalur you have a timed single button combat mechanic that is a far cry from melee combat in Skyrim and 100X better than the detached combat from WoW. Like the lad said, to each his own. I just think you are writing this off a little too easily but playing it now & playing it 6 months from now when it hits budget it doesn't really matter.

I did say I was unfairly judging it against those games, but unfortunately that's the perspective I'm looking at the combat system from. It just didn't wow me in any way to make me think that it's revolutionary like they claim it to be.

Yes, I did and I still do. Totally disagree with just spamming one button. Sure there is one button for primary weapon, but there is also one button for secondary weapon and then there are also spells/special attacks. The combos are all about timing and not spamming the buttons and the fact that these different attacks flow together so smoothly takes the combat to a whole different level IMO. For the first time in a long time playing an RPG I actually look forward to every encounter with something I can kill.

Hm I must be missing something. I think I'll give the demo another whirl this evening. Maybe the combat inspires me this time around like it does for you guys...

I hate you! I have to wait until tonight.

I trust you will drop a few updates during the day just to wet our appetites. Did you get it on PS3 or PC?
