Borderlands 2 PC DRM system revealed

Why all the love for steam? its a little browser that opens games.

Intrusive bloatware.... Steam alone might have been tolerable, but now origin also wants a piece of my resource pie, and its not gonna end there.

I hardly call 100mb RAM usage bloat.

Besides it that it gives me a single hub to see what my friends are playing, specials that no retail or online store can beat and as Graal pointed out a sense of security that my games are always available to download.

People seem to ignore the fact that Steam has almost single-handedly brought PC gaming back out from the bowls of supposed death. So many devs are seeing the light again thanks to Steam, just look at Alan Wakes success.

I'm not going to try to convince anyone that they should use Steam, or like it for that matter, but it's silly to dismiss it because of some irrational or personal opinion.

I think you mean 100% year on year, which would make it 700% from when it launched. :)

Ah, yes. 100% increase year after year. My memory isn't always as sharp as it should be. :p

Even so, a 100% sales increase is gigantic. People don't always seem to grasp just how big Steam is. If they made $50 million in 2010, then it means they made $100 million in 2011. There's only a handful of companies which can claim to make a 100% sales increase on a scale such as Steam is doing.

I find it slightly interesting that someone who has a signature involving stats from an online only multiplayer game can complain about a platform that benefits people who are always online. :) Not to mention that very same game requires Origin.

I just don't trust steam, after hearing so much about scams and account being hacked i get a little worried by registering my games with steam.once i enter my serial on a steam account it stays on that steam account, the possession moves from physical to digital since the physical version is useless once i register it with steam.

I also don't like origin since if my origin account is hacked i lose my games even though i still have the physical copy.

I only bought BF3 because it's an awesome game, when i first got BC2 i was bit reluctant to register my game online.

If you don't mind share these scams and hacks. There was one event and that's it. If you really think that all other online systems is safe... it's just matter of interest and time before they have their turn. Seriously not the materialistic excuse again :D. What happens when you loose that disc? can you go back to the shop and ask for another?

Your physical version is useless anyways. You can't play a Steam game without registering it on Steam. :/

So you'd rather not use your serial at all, making the serial useless, because you have this weird notion that tying it to Steam makes it useless?

I like Steam now that I'm almost permanently connected on a good internet connection. When I was on 512K on my old router I had endless problems and it's extremely frustrating to not be able to play games that you own because of connection issues. At the moment I think Steam's great and provides a lot of useful tools, but I can understand why people would dislike Steam.

Steam was fine when it was the only "distribution platform" on my pc. but soon every publisher will want to install their own "distribution platform", for something that can be done perfectly fine in a browser.

I am not too happy about the choice of DRM, I love CD Projects version but this game is worth it so I will still be picking it up

What other choice is there? Games for windows live? secure rom? online pass?

Depends on ISP but yeah its a bit sluggish on lower speeds but its still stable if you have a good connection line but yeah thats up to Telkom!

Same as Witcher 2, lol, no DRM because the developers love their customers lol

And subsequently got screwed by their customers, proving once and for all that a large portion of "gamers" dont give a toss about developers & that all that talk of "Empower the Legit Customer instead of penalizing them" & "Make a great game & we will buy it" is exactly that talk, nothing more.

Out of all the DRM systems they could have used Steam is the best choice. They could have pulled a Ubisoft or distributed it via Origin.

Yeah Steam is the best out of them. I just miss the good old days when Internet was never a requirement to play games.
Damn pirates really inconvenience me

Well the thing is Steam doesn't equal DRM, DRM is part of Steam but that's only one aspect.

It's about providing value rather than just clamping your testicles in a vice for the sake of profits.
