How fast do you download let's say 1 gb with that line speed? I'm quite curious.

I download 15GB in about 12-minutes. I download a gig in about a minute? I like to tease that I download stuff faster than they install :p

A 200Mbps line under "perfect" conditions can reach 25MB/s. My highest is 22MB/s (around 170Mbps). The unfortunate reality is that not all sites allow you to download at anywhere near 22MB/s. I can't think of a good example, but most sites only let you grab at about 5MB/s.

But with digital distribution platforms like Steam, GOG, Desura, Origin, etc and MMOs I download at a pretty stable 18MB/s.

Torrents, as per usual, depend heavily on seeders. Since services aren't shaped here I can easily get my line-speed on a good torrent.
Disclaimer, for my own mental health: I don't torrent very much at all, just the odd old game that I can't get on GOG and since I get most of the series I watch on Netflix for 80 SEK per month, no need for that either :p

My ISP is one of the fastest in Sweden, but at the cost of upload speed. I have a 200/10 package. There are other ISPs that offer 100/100 packages but I wanted more download speed since I don't upload much stuff and 10Mbps is more than enough for an ol' ex-Telkomite like me :D

Inorite.

A lot of people here are quite content with 20/40Mbps lines but I said, "HAH! No. I'm South African. Long have I languished under the Telkomonopoly; long have I spent far more than what I do here and received far less. I'ma getting world-class internet!" So I did and quite bloody proud of it too.

It's great to have so much bandwidth free to do with whatever you like, so that at no point are multiple services "fighting" for bandwidth.

And, of course, it's great to be able to keep my hard drives clean and only download games when I feel like playing them.

I don't think it's possible to experience this much freedom and let go of it. The idea of a 4Mbps line now makes me feel sick.png. I lose far more than that between my theoretical bandwidth and actual bandwidth.

I'd give my left ball ( or right which ever telkom prefers) to have ATLEAST a stable 10 mbp's line. But alas telkom will always be telkom. :(

If I may ask how much bandwith DO you actually use per month on average?

ISPs don't even show that here... Or at least mine doesn't. But, NetWorx and I remain good friends.

Last month I used 180GB. But that excludes data via the PlayStation (game downloads, patches, Netflix, etc) and SO's computer.

As I said, I don't pirate, so most of that is Dropbox photo uploads, game downloads, YouTube and whatever.

It's basically the same usage I had with MWEB (less, actually, since my MWEB usage was around 200GB). Except that I don't need to leave my PC on to download stuff overnight any longer.

So far I've used 37GB this month.

Just to clarify: I don't have this line to download the internet, I just have it for the freedom of being able to do many things simultaneously (stream videos, download and game, for example) and for the convenience of quick access to games in my Steam/GOG/whatever libraries (without needing to store everything on my hard drive for that rainy day).

It's probably overkill but, screw it, I love it and I won't ever give it up :p

I'm more than happy with my line now.

Used to have an uncapped Screamer 512kbps line...... *shudders*

Ouch, I remember that.

I was on that, Digichilli (was that what it was called?) and Imagine. Urgh...

I spent a year trying to find a decent ISP before finally giving in and switching to MWEB. Best decision I ever made. Well, regarding ISPs in ZA, I mean.
