S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Lost Alpha

Stalker 2 / Lost Alpha info

http://stalker-gsc.ru/news/s_t_a_l_k_e_r_2_pora_stavit_mnogotochie/2013-03-21-2003

There is no sense to retell the entire conversation because we spoke about a lot of things for a long time. Conversation always returning to the main theme for which was initiated by our session. Namely: what is the fate of the project "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2" and what we expect in the near (or not). Probably will be right to bring some excerpts as they sounded, without cutting them.
So, omitting unnecessary details, in fact quote part of our dialogue.

Ruben Firunc. Sergey, today you are one of the most knowledgeable people about everything connected with the "Stalker" and communicate with Sergey Grigorovich. Our community has long been podkolačivaet waiting for information, and silence, as said to be classic, stretches to the impropriety it would be stupid for a long time in such a situation not to take advantage of this opportunity. pogovorim? is willing to answer some questions?

Sergey Grushko. No problem, ask.

R. F. OK, then let's go: what happens to the "Stalker"? What we expect and is it worth the wait?

S. G. On "Stalker" is simple enough: Sergei shut game development, and, in particular, the project "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. It produces nothing and does not develop ("it" I mean General GSC GW). The only project that might be officially issued and sold, this mod "Lost Alfa».

R. F. That's even how?

S. G. Yes. We chatted with the guys once a year and a half ago. Fashion designers have asked Grigorovich as to whether it is possible official cooperation with the GSC Game World, if the final product will meet all necessary requirements.

R. F. Honestly, this is the first time I hear about it. That is, actually, not surprising: skill Game you can only be encrypted by the GSC envy.

S. G. No, just don't have the need and grounds to make any premature statements. By the way, and now no, I'm just stating the facts.
As for the "Protocol of intent" and possible cooperation with the "Lost" Alfa" is not a fluke, and practice: a similar precedent already occurred a few years ago.

What are your opinions on Survarium? It's a free-to-play MMOFPS with role-playing and survival elements, that Vostok Games is developing through venture capital following the purported cancellation of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and closure of GSC Game World in 2011.

The game focuses on the aftermath of a massive ecological catastrophe on Earth, the reasons behind which are only vaguely known.Impassable woods advance onto cities from every side, as maddened animals and birds attack industrial complexes, military structures, warehouses and power-plants. Strange plants and mushrooms grow through concrete and steel. Scientists all over the world haplessly try to cope with the anomaly expanding with terrifying speed across the planet. Countries collapse; anarchy spreads throughout the world. Now force dictates who can survive. The game is developed with new proprietary Vostok Engine technology and is planned for release on PC by the end of 2013.

It looks
quite interesting. :o

personally I don't play online games, especially f2p games.

And just to point out that GSC never closed down, they just stopped development on stalker 2.

Ah. I see. Was just reading about their situation on various pages like:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSC_Game_World
http://stalker.filefront.com/news

On GSC's home page it says:
"In view of the rumors appearing in press, we find it necessary to inform that GSC Game World and Sergey Grigorovich remain to be the sole owners of all the intellectual property rights to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game series and the brand overall, including all the trademarks, the game universe, the technology etc. This can be easily verified with the trademark services online."

After reading this Rockpapershotgun thread it seems like there may have been some sort of staff meeting, layoffs and temporary closure. The fact that they mention a new development team and investors — and that the majority of their team skedaddled to form Vostok Games — suggests that the company, at the very least, is in stasis.

The company is alive and well, just that they are not developing anymore and are essentially a publisher at the moment. They want to publish our game if we can attain the standards they require.

I do keep checking Moddb but lately it's been as barren as the Exclusion Zone itself. The last news update was just before Christmas.

We make comments now and then as well as a calendar and pics every month. The release date is not up to us anymore and so we cant comment on it.

First I'm hearing of this. You say the release date isn't up to you guys - but it 'definitely' will release at some point?
Having looked through the FAQ etc, I can't tell if it's still planned to release this as a mod or a standalone game?

Q: How will this work with Steam version of SoC?
A: Lost Alpha currently doesn’t need to be installed over SoC, only needs the original disc in dvd drive. We haven’t tested it yet with Steam version.

According to the FAQ page, the FAQ was last updated 03/03/11 - is that date still valid, or was it updated more recently?

Was there ever a version available to the public that is still accessible somewhere to check out? I've never played through all of STALKER but still have it here somewhere and would be keen to have a mod for it that improves its playability on Win7/8. The last time I tried playing it with a stock installation it had an incredibly low framerate for the graphics it offered, while the Float32 mod improved performance and graphics overall, but also introduced glitches that otherwise made the game unplayable...

GSC could possibly publish the game if we can get it to the level they expect.
It is a totally new game, no disc is needed in the drive currently.
There has never been a playable version released.
We have totally overhauled the engine and graphics and are currently adding new tree models and textures to all levels.

Seeing this made me want to play the STALKER games again. I haven't ever owned them so I went to Look & Listen and they said they could order them for me. It's been weeks and nobody has phoned despite me phoning them and going there in person several times. Bunch of idiots. So Lost Alpha looks to be my only hope. I just hope it doesn't end up like Black Mesa.

Every time I come here it seems this just gets further and further away from being released. :(

Do you guys have a possible time-frame in which you expect this to come out? I miss playing STALKER, but I'm so tired of replaying all the old ones again.

Well I really hope it is this year or I could possibly shoot myself :)

We`re going as fast as a team can that have real jobs and not much time. It WILL be worth the wait.
