FireFall

Most frustrating, got a new computer copied the game, it works , BUT!!!!

It is now downloading WHILE playing, I am in the game but it is eating up all my bandwidth, I have no idea why, I copied my whole cache folder, nothing works.

No idea what the hell is going on.

That really does suck, have you tried this from FireFall website; How do I copy/move an installation?

Yep, I been playing with settings almost all night (yes, I am addicted to this game and want it working dammit!).

It seems that there are 2 issues at play here:

1. When you copy the game, the cache folder is made read only on windows 8 when first created, meaning that no new textures are added so FF tries to stream them all the time.
2. Since the last patch, the setting that disables texture streaming is bugged, since it does not always work, textures still stream.

I solved the first by manually taking off the read only in windows through the attrib command, the second is a known bug it seems. I am now taking slow flights through the world with medium textures on while working to build up my texture cache ;-P

Will see if it helps in peak time where my bandwidth is shaped down.

Best of luck with it, hope it comes right.

Keep in mind that tonight might not be the best time to play, open beta launch and all. In every MMO, this is always the most buggy as servers get stressed etc.

This I agree with. I decided to give it a couple of days to cool off, but then I'm there like a bear, with long hair (but not there ...) Is there a huge patch, Shrike?

NB. It is extremely disturbing that my first Google hit of a "bear with long hair" ends up being Lady Gaga at an Amusement Park ... the internet is an evil place ... evil, I tell you.

If you did the big patch 2 weeks ago, that was a monster:4 gigs, the one that patched in the new instances and all the major changes, you are ok.

The open beta patch that hit yesterday was only 360 megs.

Well since it went open beta, that nice small 11MB update they gave, seems to have broken more than it fixed.
Friends lists are missing, other options seem to go missing, like the manugacturing queues etc.
So lets hope they give a new update soon to rectify these small issues.

From what I read, this has nothing to do with the patch but everything to do with server strain. As in most MMO launches, the initial amount of people suddenly playing breaks the infrastructure. As I said, if you don't want to sit with the launch hassle, play a few days later. Personally I am too addicted to wait and I play even though I have to reload my UI ten times to get my crafting queue working ;-)

True true, thank you for setting me straight there. The game is addictive yes, but i am not that addicted.
My friends are addicted as badly as you, as the one plays all day long, he makes like 60 000CY in an hour or something stupid.

Been playing this game since the closed beta - been looking for some SA players. What are your in-game nicks so I can add you? Mine's r3nd3r3d.
