Comic Books

Still deciding if I should give in and purchase a ticket. With Van Sciver I had to wait my turn for 10 hours... Was worthwhile though but let's just say a guy can only browse the aisles so many times.

I do have a few trades and comics from these two somewhere, so at least I won't have to buy that extra.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I am really keen for this, because we don't really get the opportunity to do this too many times.
 
I'm on the fence for now, but may cave in. Actaully trying to lessen my collection not add to it, but you know how it goes. And you know who bought me my first comic? My Gran (bless her soul). And guess what it was - freaking Spider-Man where Gwen dies. Traded it in a few days later at the book shop. If only I knew... Anyways, back on topic, saving up, just in case. Like you said, we don't get opportunities like this everyday.

You don't collect statues by any chance? Looking for a M. Turner Supergirl and those are as scarce as hen's teeth.

Unfortunately, no I don't. My gf would murder me if I was collecting that too. She's giving me a hard time with the shortboxes already...

Yes, that one! Could have gotten it years ago and can kick myself for not getting it. And here in SA the guys want top dollar for it.

I'm lucky, my wife bought me my fist statue and some more after that, but with the kids now that has taken a back seat.

Two things bother me about statues...they take up a lot of space when you have 10+ and they cost a lot. But I do see the appeal. I can stare at someone's statue collection for hours. Have you seen that statue of Rhino at Cosmic?
 
Haven't been there in ages so no. But I think I know which one you are talking about.

Yes, statues do take up space. And having to keep the boxes even more so. But a nice collection does turn eyes. I do have quite a few, even some that are worth quite a bit, but you have to portray then right and decent cabinets don't come cheap.

My other collection is trading cards. Got quite a few nice sets, and getting the one or two chase cards I need is proving to be difficult here in SA. Have gotten some via eBay, but some are a bit pricey, even on there.

What size statues are we talking here? Life-size or just "action figure"?

Also, I started reading Kid Eternity (Grant Morrison - I'm clearly a big fan of his) and it's really awesome (so far).

Action figure. Though it would be awesome having a life-size Spawn statue chilling in the garden...

Yeah that's a good book. At some point, Battle of the Atom will start happening, which will require you to get the other parts from Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, Wolverine and the X-Men to make any sense of what is going on.

I know that at the moment, All-New X-Men is going to do an event that crosses over with Guardians of the Galaxy. Anyone going to get that?
 
I've always wanted to get into Comic Books. I'm a big Marvel and DC fan.

Do you guys read the original books or the digital versions as well?

I recently downloaded over 700 volume 1 comics from Marvel (that promotion they had a while back) and started there. Looks like I have so much catching up to do...

Nice. I have a couple of spawn statues and Jack and Sally from Nightmare before Christmas sitting in my study. They are awesome, and have quite a bit of collectors value - you can't get them anymore.

They do take up space, but not too much.

I read both mediums, depending on where I can get it or what the occasion is. I have about 20 of those 700 left to read.

I'm so far behind with my reading that I don't get new editions anymore, I wait for the trades or books. Let me know if it's any good :D
