Why does James always use the "it's an SEO thing" excuse? Can we rectify this?

Links to broken or rubbish websites lowers the SEO rating of the website linking them. Google's crawlers picks this up and will demote the MyGaming website to lower ranks on certain web searches.

Got your back James.....

Hahaha, thanks. However I was just poking some fun at James :p

However, on a site of the size and amount of activity like myGaming, a few broken links are unlikely to have any major effect. Because if you think that myGaming doesn't have any broken links on it, you're in for one hell of a surprise, because the majority of the site happens to be in the hands of regular users (ie the forum itself). And there are plenty of broken links on happily indexed forum pages.

Google uses more than 200 factors to rank sites and pages - broken outgoing links are a minor concern. It naturally happens on a large and busy site. If you had a 20 page site with 20 broken links ... yes ... it's a problem. If you have a 300,000+ page site with 20 broken links ... not so much.

I wasn't exactly arguing with James, though. In an ideal world, any administrator would want every facet of SEO to be perfect, and this includes things like broken links. But what many fail to realise is that SEO is just one facet of a much larger marketing pie.

I'd actually be fascinated to see myGaming's actual traffic stats, although I realise it's not very likely.

Yeah, we won't share stats of detail such as you get in Google Analytics. Effective Measure gives a good overview of websites in SA that offer advertising - lots of publishers of course. That info is available to members of DMMA and advertising agencies and such (and anyone who wants to pay really).

The two stats that generally matter the most are unique browsers and page views. We don't mind telling people our stats; I just can't disclose competitors info (those that are registered with DMMA at any rate):

December 2013 was a surprisingly good month; usually traffic dips around and Xmas and New year but this year it remained solid, a good sign :)

So that double posting issue that was resolved some time ago seems to be back. The one where you make one post, and it gets posted twice.

I've seen it a few times in the last couple of days.

Eg.

Maybe the server is struggling with the high traffic volume this week or something? But thought I would point it out FYI.

Looks like those people just accidentally made a double post but we'll keep an eye out for more problems.

Ya, maybe it was taking too long to post and they clicked the button again or something, just thought I'd mention it though

Nevermind traffic. That's a lot of lurkers

Well, hello out there! Why don't you register? We all float down here!

Edit: And we have cake ;)

The cake is a lie!

I'd love to see the January numbers at the end of the month. It should be interesting to compare with December and see how much the PS4 comp have lifted the UBs and PVs. One could also see if the increased activity on the forums are mostly from new visitors or if it comes more from lurkers that are lured into posting to be eligible for the comp.
