There's been a lot of assertion that thread necro is happening all over the place like some sort of epidemic but from my perspective this is hardly the case.
Unfortunately I can't read every single post that's made. This is why we partly rely on people reporting posts.
There have been some reported posts for thread necro, and i have dished out warnings to the guilty parties when justified, and this has corrected their behaviour.
I have also done nothing about many of the reports because they haven't really done anything wrong.
For context, I have a total of 20 reported posts since the competition launched, and this has resulted in me warning two serious necro-posters to stop doing it.
The forum is open to everyone, newcomers and old-timers alike.
I'm also not going to start goosestepping around here like some sort of MyGaming Gestapo and give infractions to every person who says something slightly brash, harsh, or rude.
Supposedly we are all adult human beings and much like any other social setting, people must figure out their own problems amongst themselves. The only time moderators will want to step in is if members are constantly engaging in fights and attacks on one another, creating a hostile environment for everyone in general.
Again, this is why there is a reporting system. If someone has really done something to personally affront you, then take it to moderation.
If someone has necroposted or transgressed one of the etiquette guidelines, then report the post and the mods will make a call.
If you want to address the person directly then go ahead, but don't be a douche about it.
It's probably useful to direct them here: Guide for new MyGaming forum members

Currently the mod team is mainly myself and Dan, but there are other staff who will handle any spambots and the likes if we aren't available.
