I pledged... (✯) Citizen. Enlist now!

There was a whole discussion on how people afford the more expensive one and all of them mostly said the same thing they have a gaming budged and they saved that each month to finally buy the more expensive stuff so in essence gamers know how to spend money on games :D

Why not back them now and get some extra goodies a long the way? $30 is fair price for the started package, then later if you want a better ship you exchange that package for the money and just buy an upgraded package.

You'll be paying 50 to almost 100 % more for the game in that case. It's going to retail at $60, so getting the game at $35 before launch is well worth it.

Sorry, my post was poorly worded. When I refer to getting the game when it's released, I'm actually suggesting I'll preorder it literally at the last minute.

This has to do with the time value of money, and the utility I could be getting out of it now. If I can pledge that $35 or $30 right before release date, why would I do so now? Effectively, they'll be sitting with my money for several months (if not longer, in fact) earning interest/investment income on it, whilst I'm left out-of-pocket. If I have the cash in my hand now, I can stick it in my investment account (which I do, every month), and then grab it at a later date. I realise the interest income isn't huge, especially on just $35 (or around R400), but every little bit helps :)

Getting caught up in the pre-order hype of buying a game months/years before it's actually released has burnt me in the past, hence this approach.

*edit*

Also, the longer I delay the preorder, the more info is released on the game. The more info is released on the game, the better I can decide if I actually want to preorder it. Cancelling is such a pain in the ass :p

ok so I got 2 dumb questions I'm sure I can probably find the answers to in this thread but I'm too lazy to read through 19 pages :D

1. when will the game actually be released now?

2. what happens if your ship is destroyed and you don't have this "insurance"?

1. Late 2015
2. You will then have to find work ingame to get enough money for a new/2de hand shitty ship. But as it stands now there is no solid answer they are still figuring it out.

ah, ok cool. yeah cause it would really suck if you had to for out another $30 to get a ship then

The paying for ships thing is kind of putting me off this game. That and the fact that the little piece of the game you can currently download is very underwhelming really worries me.

It worries you that a pre-alpha build is underwhelming? Really?

And really it's not, I'm quite impressed with the hanger module. The engine is very unoptimized at the moment, but it's absolutely gorgeous. The only thing underwhelming me is my 5850 :(

True, but most kickstarter games increase in price the closer they get to the release date. So if you order on day 99, it will probably be at $55 already. Also at the rate the rand is depreciating it might cost you 50% more if you buy it then. And you'll lose out on all the little goodies they throw in just for fun. Additionally, if you buy it now you will feel that you get the game for free when it eventually comes out.

Well I would have at least liked to see what space looks like, since that's what the game is supposed to be about. Stars and stuff, you know? I didn't back the game to get a first person solitary confinement simulator :p

It's cold, dark and empty. Happy now? :D

I stopped trying to convince friends since the whole birth of this thing. When you have the buggie, fish tank ...etc . They will be spending time trying to get them while you are busy moding a mothership.

Get hold of the dev consol command then yoh can play with what work they have done so far.

so is it worth forking out extra for the Aurora MR+ or LN or will the standard MR be sufficient? I can't really tell the difference between them, besides the LN having a different paint job

1) It's not a kickstarter game any more, and I wouldn't support a kickstarter game which ramps up it's pricing closer to the funding deadline... If it starts increasing drastically in price, I'll consider whether it's worth getting.
2) The rand/dollar exchange rate depreciating by 50% in a year and a half? Even the economic doom predictions I've had come across my desk don't predict such a drastic decline. Nor, in fact, does our chief economist at the bank.
3) Free goodies - well yes, but I don't doubt you will be able to get many of those by just playing the game when it's released. So meh.
4) "Feel like you get it for free" - yes, it's only a feeling, and the reality is, you will likely have paid a similar amount to it, given the lost cash utility and interest, than I will - even if the price of the game does increase.

1) Most kickstarter's that I've seen have increased their price the closer they get to release date (not funding date). That is a way of rewarding the early backers.
2) 26% drop in the last year. Go and check it on x-rates if you don't believe me. Game is almost 2 years away.

It's your choice, use it don't use it. I don't care. I'm happy with the decision that I've made.

1) And yet none of the ones I've funded have :)
2) Yes indeed. Which is why a 50% decrease from hereon out is most unlikely, even with the structural weaknesses in our economy, and the perceptions of our currency as a weak emerging market one. If you'd like, we can create another thread to discuss exchange rate predictions and the various sides of the argument around where the rand will be going from here. As a side note, if you're so pessimistic about the exchange rate, and if you deal a lot in foreign currency, I hope you're taking out FECs now.

I can see you're happy with your decision. But as you can see, I've reasoned out my approach to this stuff, and I believe my approach has fewer suppositions and assumptions in it. So I'm happy with my approach :)

Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing how this game turns out!
