The MyGaming board games thread

So how different are Small World and Small World Underground?
I haven't played the SW yet but from what I've seen I think it's basically the same game in concept, just with different races, powers, terrain and perhaps some new mechanics

Jip, I'm sitting on pins and needles right now waiting for Takalot to deliver my copy, also Underground
it really is a lot of fun but a VERY strategic game

Had a board gaming evening during the weekend. Played Small World Underground and Drakon.

Small World is really very strategic as Malice said. You have to get to grips with each race and power, and choose very carefully which combination you take and when you take them. A friend took the Vampire Mummies and practically took over the whole map. Was our first time playing the game, and he manage to exploit our lack of knowledge with that combination very well. Before we knew it, he had amassed a commanding foothold. The game after that, I took the Vampire Gnomes, but was severely ganked by everyone, as everyone learned their lesson the previous game

Drakon is super loads of fun. It's one of those games that can really test your friendship, as you play is either better your own position, or screw over your opponents. We had loads of fun, and a lot of laughs as well. Very easy game it learn, and I will definitely recommend it.

I must admit our board games club hasn't played Game of Thrones in a long while thanks to our usual rotation of Settlers of Catan, King of Tokyo, iKnow, and Incan Gold (a game worth trying if you're a gambler :D). I really miss the madness of Game of Thrones.

I bought Arkham Horror last week. Must now get addons later :). I love Arkham Horror and Eldritch Horror

I love Cthulu Mythos. It's one of my favourite settings. I just have no idea what Arkham horror is like gameplay-wise. Can you give me a basic run-down?

I played King of Tokyo on the weekend. What a great game. My brother won the game with a combination of "even bigger" (the +2 permanent health card) and both regen cards. He was impossible to kill so just sat out of Tokyo and waited to pick us off one by one. He won with 1 victory point.

Elder Sign is an awesome quick-play option for the Cthulhu mythos set. Arkham Horror and Mansions of Madness are awesome, but it can sometimes take a looooot of time to get through even a single campaign.

In Arkham Horror you choose a character to play with. Each round there is a chance of monsters to be summoned and gates to be opened. You must close portals before Ancient One are summoned. This is a very basic description :). Game is 1-8 players

I was in Outer limits last week and they recommended Eldritch Horror over Arkham Horror. They said that it is much easier to get in to and set up, yet is the same style of game. They highly recommended it. I haven't played it, but I plan on getting it instead of Arkham Horror.

If any of you are interested, you can get the new edition of D&D from Takealot, Kalahari or Raru. They are al selling it. I think the best place is Raru as they have it for the best price (R500 a book) and they have the Player's Handbook in stock. The other places all have long delivery times. Just FYI.

Has anyone played the Walking Dead boardgame? Been thinking of getting it, but it's R1000

I've never played it, but to be honest, I'm a little sceptical of games derived from established franchises. It seems like they are just trying to capitalize on something. It might be good, but I have no idea.

The board game geek page doesn't paint a great picture. It's got a 5.44/10 approval rating and is quite low on their rank list. The highest games on the rank list have ratings of about 8.2/10. Do with that information what you will:

Random question but does anyone know of a rpg group (d&d pathfindet etc) in cape town looking for a new player, I am desperate to start playing again!

I have both games. There are some differences between the two
