Blade & Soul

I have literally been waiting FOR-E-VER for the Western release of B&S. I've been playing since 2012 on the Korean servers, Chinese servers, and now Russian server. The European B&S community are a tight knit group as we have pretty much stuck together since the English translation patch became available, so even though the current server is Russian, the European community on it is huge. I'm really looking forward to playing the official Western release with my guild.

Quite a few <Grim Wolves> have played B&S together in the past, however, the poor English translation and lag was a deterrent to some, so it has really just been Captain Random and I who've played on a regular basis. My main is a Lyn Summoner. :)

I will post some more detailed info here about the game. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

Been looking forward to this as well, the next few months need to hurry up :)

Question 1: Do the races have any effect on the class you pick? I know in Tera you would pick a certain race based on their animations when using skills etc to get the max out of the character or when dodging. Just curious if the same applies to Blade & Soul.

Question 2: How is the healer class (I take it there is only 1 from what I saw on the site, correct me if I'm wrong)? I always enjoy playing the support/healer class in mmo's since it gives me more to do than just dpsing away like crazy. And on a side note to that question, how is the leveling with the healer? is it possible to level solo with it or would I need a dps, tank buddy along for the ride?

Thanks

Question 1: Do the races have any effect on the class you pick?
No. There are no racial or base stat benefits, however, certain classes are locked to certain races:

Gon: Destroyer, Kung Fu Master
Jin: Assassin, Blade Master, Kung Fu Master
Yun (Female Only): Force Master, Blade Master
Lyn (FTW!): Summoner, Force Master

I took some screenies of the character creation screen and the different classes.

Question 2: How is the healer class
There is no healer class. Although not as crucial as WildStar, L2P is one of the defining factors on whether or not you'll be successful in the game. There is very little standing still, and you'll need quick reflexes, good situational awareness, good knowledge of your class and abilities and be able to cast them at the appropriate time i.e. Melee classes need to know when to block/parry/counter and ranged classes need to know when to CC.

How is the leveling with the healer? is it possible to level solo?
(There is no healer class) The game has been optimised nicely for solo play. You gain access to the dungeon finder basically from the get-go, however, I play Summoner and was able to solo most of the low-level instances (when I really shouldn't have!) Again, it depends on your knowledge of the gameplay and class and your ability to kite, drink potions etc. Alternatively, you can just find a party by pressing 'F' at the Dragon Pillars outside dungeons and should be find a party fairly quickly. Having said this, it is not possible to solo the mid-higher level instances. You have to do them with a party. I've had zero trouble pugging thus far, the server I play on is full/active. :)

I'd just like to clarify a few things as well.

There is no grind. WoW and TERA are 100x more grindy than B&S.
If you managed in WildStar, B&S is a piece of cake with regard to levelling and raiding.
If you couldn't hack WildStar, you'll definitely appreciate the soloable content/questing/community of Blade & Soul.
It is advisable to check your internet connection and PC specs before considering B&S. I play on Ultra, but many folks I play with have to dumb their settings down considerably. On the upside, they say it still looks great!

Yea I have to say I am excited about this. I just cannot wait to play this again. I am gonna give it a try on the eu servers since the broken english was just to much for me :P

The reason I actually bought a new gaming PC was in anticipation of this game. Deciding factor between the PC and Console. It must be pretty polished now. I've heard that they were changing stuff for the western version? So when is winter in the west?

If anyone is currently playing the Technical Alpha, hit me up: Yoshemaru!
Grim Wolves will be playing the BETA and the release, so if this is a game that appeals to you, please consider joining us! We have also made a Facebook Page for interested South African players.

Is it open beta? Doesn't matter. I'll get a founder's pack. How big is download?

There's about 6 of us (confirmed) that'll be playing the BETA together this week. :)
Please note that you must choose The Crimson Legion faction if you wish to be in our guild. Only members of the same faction can be in a guild together.

No worries, guys. Very few peeps have cash to splash out on Founders Packs. CBT1 was a resounding success and the handful of us (South Africans) who did play had lots of fun. The Westernisation is good thus far — they've removed superfluous quests and streamlined the levelling process significantly. Overall, community feedback was good — there was little to no QQ in chat. I've uploaded some in-game tips to the Facebook page and will be uploading further screenshots and videos after CBT2.
