Can anyone recommend a good Pc gaming headset under R1500?

I look forward to using what I get - for as long as possible.

I've got a pair of HD 202's, bought them for practicing guitar late at night about a decade a go. Yes, a decade. I've abused mine, so the on cup distorts a little bit at very high volumes, but i'm talking 100W guitar amp volumes, nothing a computer will produce easily.

It's a great, comfortable set, just make sure you're okay with over ear cups, these things tend to form a low pressure area which sucks onto your ear, and that hurts my relatively sensitive ears after four or five hours of use.

If its purely for gaming and hard music I would recommend Razer Tiamat 2.2's They cost around R1100.
I hate Razer but I really like this headset, for gaming they are damn good, also good for music if your into drum and bass or and hard dance music. Def has the best bass of any headset in the price bracket.

I prefer Over-The-Ear. Blocks out unwanted sounds (environmental sounds). Also, On-The-Ear headphones hurts my ears, and hurts them considerably more, as I wear glasses.

You mentioned a "suction", this doesn't dampen the sound or give a muddy effect, does it?

Way out of my "can afford" range. Was willing to spend nothing over R500, and got what I wanted.

Thanks for the input though.

A friend of mine has been using them for 4 years and still swears by them so I got mine yesterday. I love the sound and the strong bass

Yeah I had been using mine back in highschool for about a year until they got stolen.

Really great headphones with strong, tight lows.

No, the suction doesn't effect the sound at all.

I found that it only happened after long sessions with them on.

Exactly this. I found it happens after 2 hours or so, starts to hurt a bit after 4. The suction helps cancel out outside noise, if anything.

Got my set today after my corsair vengeance set started acting up and man am i disappointed :(

For some reason there's this faint humming noise that i can't get rid of no matter how hard i try. I've had this before with my corsair set but that was due to my line-in. I found that disabling the line-in made the buzzing go away. I thought maybe i could do the same this time around but it didn't seem to work.

Tried uninstalling the drivers and software and then re-installing them and still the sound persists. Also messed around disabling and enabling many many things but still the sound persists. Did some research and some people suggested different USB ports, swapping out to a different mouse etc... etc.... etc.. Nothing!

Anyways, i'm pretty sure its a good headset but i think this one might be a dud. Going to try and find a few more solutions but if i can't fix this i'll most likely get myself the Logitech G430 as a replacement set.

Ah man that's such a pity to hear.

Do you feel anything vibrating inside the cups? Could actually be a loose component inside the driver.

Had a quick glance and can't see or hear anything out of place. I actually think it might be the connector that connects the mixer and the headset together. Seeing as i tried almost everything including a bit of wiggling [legitimate technical term], the sound still won't go away.

Test the set on another PC, might actually be your Sound Card. If it is indeed the set, just swap it out - Also use the dial and USB options rather than the jack's. I know, I know... Just trust me the software and the processor are incredible! Or did you get the Sirus S?

No i didn't get the S..

Yea i'm going to test the set on my PC at work to see if i can still hear the humming sound. I don't have a sound card so i only used the USB connector last night and not the jacks.

Will test a bit and see what happens..

Well now he can actually get a decent headset, Logitech G430. :D

You just think your so cool don't you :p

sup dudes

sorry for rehashing this old thread, but i want to use some kalahari vouchers to grab a headset. need some advice. My budget is laughable around R700. This is the page of what's in that band

what about one of these ?

I think Roccat and Turtle Beach are both pretty good. Also check out Tritton headsets. I have a pair of AX-180's that have served me very well, and they work on PC, XBox 360, and PS3. Wired stereo, but they sound good. My only issue is that the SVM (Selective Voice Monitoring) causes a bit of a hiss that you hear when it's quite, like between rounds. Turning SVM off takes the hiss away but then it doesn't play your voice back at you.

Would like to know if there are any headsets with one jack for mic and headphones similar to cellphone earphones since my laptop has only got one jack for both.

You get those cheapo earphones with the mic attached but those really are crap.

Otherwise there are USB headphones that have a mic attached.
