Comic Books

Sorry i should have said, Started with Planet Hulk, Then World War Hulk, and Then World War Hulk Aftersmash... "whistling:

Haha, no stress. I don't know if you have watched Age of Ultron yet, but I've got a sneaking suspicion that Hulk may be going somewhere. Would be cool if it's an indication of a Planet Hulk type movie or so later (there is an animated Planet Hulk which was also quite good).

I'm reading and enjoying some Secret Wars. TheAvenged87, I'll check out Preacher, and all the other recommendations you've made.

Time to wake this bad boy up.

What's everyone been reading? I've been reading Preacher, up to volume 3 now.

I've also spent a lot of time reading Valiant books. I've read a boat load of trades now, including Archer & Armstrong, Bloodshot, Shadowman, Harbinger Wars and XO Manowar. Valiant has been putting out some good stuff.

I also got my hands on The Ghost in the Shell and it's sequel. Beautiful books with amazing art by Shirow Masamune (what a bad ass name). I've read the first chapter so far and I'm in love with it.

I also bought first printings of The Wicked + The Divine #1 and Descender #1 , both in pristine condition, for a combined total of R86. Both has just been optioned for a TV show and movie respectively. If one of them happens, I can bank some coin. If they don't, I gained two awesome comics.

I've been reading the latest Saga (good times).

I'm also reading Superman and the new Action Comics (and I'm enjoying the Truth arc thus far).

Jis, I've been neglecting Superman comics over the last couple of years. In fact, DC and Marvel have not been doing too many great things in the last while. I now collect very few DC and Marvel books and instead, I opt for Image, Valiant and IDW books.

Also, the art from the Ghost in the Shell is AMAZING. Check this out.

I know i saw this to death, but OMG THE WALKING DEAD IS GETTING SO CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though issue 144 was like a kick in the balls... Robert Kirkman is a master of the set up... Even when you think you know whats coming... its not... and then you get round house kicked to the face...

Also started the Warcraft comics, I enjoy the lore etc but they are not great...

I'll check that out. Quite true, there's few things that are groundbreaking within Marvel and DC in recent times.

Also, the new Death Vigil is out. Now that is a good time :D

I still haven't checked out Death Vigil. My backlog is something monstrous and it doesn't help that I am catching up with all of that Valiant stuff. Are the current Superman books any good? The only one that piques any interest from me is the new Bizarro book that is currently on the shelf, I see it will only be running for 6 issues.

I'm not going to lie, I like what they're doing with the Truth arc in both Superman and Action Comics. The change to supes powers and strength is probably the most striking thing :)

Anyone have a Chronological list of Important editions on Marvels new secret wars I should be reading .I have just resubscribed and seems there is a comics event happening that I am missing .

Or rather a required reading list , I'm not looking into getting into Ghost racers .

Nope, but I'm keeping an eye on this comment so that I can check it out later. For interest sake, are you looking at required reading or required reading + great other tie-ins? I know people are enjoying some of the more off-beat stuff like Weird World.

Shit, I miss this thread. Anybody reading anything worth noting?

I've been digging into my Marvel Ultimate Graphic Novel Collection a little (for the first time in about a year, I still get them every two weeks though) and I'm busy reading Fantastic Four: Unthinkable. I've never really been into FF, but this has started off pretty good so far. Dr. Doom is a pretty cool villain. I think the point of these graphic novel collections is so that you can read the best stories that Marvel has to offer, even if you haven't really experienced all of the characters involved. Now, it is probably too late to get into the Marvel run, as we're at about 80 volumes in, but there is some good news.

I see that pretty soon DC will launch their own range of essential graphic novels, much in the same vein as these books. Nice hardcover books with self-contained stories, with some cool spine art. Keep your eyes out for these at places like CNA. Then, Hachete is doing a similar collection for Judge Dredd books. Get on that, especially since older Dredd stories aren't really readily available in SA.

Just looking at the self contained stories , The main titles I will follow but footnotes from the others do me well. I just read Secret Wars 1,2,3
and I am certain Im missing a lot .Most other sites including Marvel give a few essentials but im hoping someone who has read it can condense it. TheAvenged87 Doom is boss hes is undoubtedly the one of the most interesting characters from Marvel. Unthinkable was just amazing and even here in Secret Wars hes right in the center very Fun with the whole of the Marvel comic universe rebooting cant wait to see who makes it out .

I saw that list, and it looks amazing. I've read the first Secret Wars and some of Hickman's New Avengers (because Jock does the covers like a BOSS). It would be nice to read a lot of these books, but I have been burned reading big events from DC and Marvel before. What I'll most likely do is wait until the even is over and then check out what people are saying. It'll be easier to work out what to read once people know the complete story IMHO.

Ja, me too... I've been more into the board-gaming side of things (and Witcher 3) than I have been reading lately.

I did manage to squeeze in a few things that I wouldn't recommend: The Green Woman (Cheesy horror shlock), The new 52 Constantine (disappointing and I love Constantine).

I somewhat enjoy the new 52 Green Lantern Corps. It was enjoyable enough two volumes in.

Something I did read that I highly recommend, but I am sure that most you would have read it: Arkham Asylum by Grant Morrison and Dave Mckean. Holy crap it was good. It was a trip of psychologically-tormenting brilliance that shows what Morrison is really capable of. Go and buy this now if you haven't read it.

I'm so far behind, I haven't thought about Secret Wars, I might wait for the collections.

I hate what DC has been doing with Constantine. Such a great character...but they're essentially nerfing him. The old Hellblazer books were some of the best comics on the stands.

I used to be into New52 Green Lantern books, especially because the lead-up to New52 was so good in those books. I collected the entire range up to issue 17 and then this happened: I accidentally skipped four books in Green Lantern Corps. FOUR. And it was so monotonous that I didn't even notice until I saw the skipped books. I stopped reading it right then and there.

DUDE Arkham Asylum is the business. Morrison once in an interview hinted that this book is what Batman dreams about. I loved it to bits. Another interesting fact: this is the book that made Morrison a rich man. He was getting $1 per book sold, and it sold out its first print run of 100,000 copies in a few days. The book launched, and like three days later, he got a call from Karen Berger (the Vertigo editor at the time) who told him that he's pretty rich now. I loved the book, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to explore the dark side of the Batman universe.

I loved Hellblazer. I miss that character. DC nerfed him big time.

I suspected that the Green Lantern books might not get more interesting, and I wasn't planning on going much further, so it's good to get confirmation on that.

I can believe that Arkham Asylum would be a Batman dream. It makes perfect sense like that. It was really disturbing. I loved it. It's one of my new favourite stories of all time, most of which seem to be batman-related :D
