Competition disqualifications

I just had that feeling when Orion defended Vapor-X for spamming. I thought I was being paranoid.

In that case I'm relieved my buddy at work decided not to attempt enteringike I suggested he should. Would've been gutted if I'd been disqualified on the suspicion that I was duping accounts.
 
I wonder how many posts there are where Orion answers VaporX, or quotes, or vice versa... Sneaky... Very sneaky...

How the hell did he get two accounts into the top 25?I had to post almost all day these last three days to make it. Worked harder on my holiday than I do at work lol.

Same here. He must've been in front of his pc all week. Poor guy, wasted all his time :p
 
Wow, that was a little dramatic. Makes no sense to have a clone account, that is twice the hard work :p

And twice as much spam when he/''they'' were online, I remember how Orion had just over 600 points at one point, next time I looked he was by 670 :wtf:

Ya, even without a proxy server, if you go through the same router, you have a NAT'd IP address, so if two or more people are in the same office or house, they will show up with the same IP address. So unless you can get something like a MAC address or local IP address in addition to the public IP address, that's not absolute proof that the posts came from the same machine, rather, it's just very suspicious, and a judgement call needs to be taken.

Fortunately, in this case, there are more reasons for disqualification than the suspicion of clone accounts, so that makes it easier.

Don't worry. James isn't stupid. He's well aware that IPs alone doesn't prove a clone and he won't ban and disqualify without other evidence as well. I just mentioned the IP issue to blaaislaai to highlight that it shouldn't be used as the only criteria in clone-hunting.

I also do the same at work too so people who also use same site will have same IP address as mine.

Don't worry. James isn't stupid. He's well aware that IPs alone doesn't prove a clone and he won't ban and disqualify without other evidence as well. I just mentioned the IP issue to blaaislaai to highlight that it shouldn't be used as the only criteria in clone-hunting.

RPM did think I did once but it was work people signing up on this site for the competition after I mentioned the site to them, but have not had problems when James around.

Yeah, James actually spent quite a significant amount of time last night investigating those accounts, he wanted to be very sure.

wow, hot news and controversy! i am so glad i am not part of it. it was easy to avoid the controversy: i did not attempt to win the PS4. i consider myself a bit of a super-sluiper around here. i enjoy reading your silly comments far more than making my own :)

i do hope the end of the competition will mean less drivel on the forums and more substance :)
 
I agree with Murph!!! Ban 40 more people so that I am in the top 25!!!!

Also, I agree that perhaps comps should be open to people that have been members for more than, say 1 month. This would mean that if the person really is here for the forum and not the comp, he will still be around a month later to enter that one.

Also, with the new users, perhaps these should become Top 50 activity, meaning that the members from way back when still have a chance to enter, AND not get fired from work. :)

I wouldnt be opposed to making the comps available to members that have been around for at least a month or something similar... That being said I probably wouldnt have joined the forum if I couldnt have entered the first comp... So it would more than likely mean that new members would not stick around...
