Cricket Thread - not the bugs but the buggers playing it :)

Well Robbie P did 10 overs 1/39, I don't know if he is maintaining his position in the team as a frontline spin bowler since Duminy is starting to bowl a lot better. Wonder how long it will be before something breaks

ooh 143/5 McLaren's turn

11.10pm It's over. Called off. Sri Lanka win by 17 runs. It would have been a tough chase for South Africa even if it was a full 50-over chase. With Amla unavailable due to injury, it became even tougher.

Man of the Match today should be the groundstaff who have put in some serious hard work today.

Post-match presentation:

The Man of the Match is Dinesh Chandimal, for his battling 43.

AB de Villiers: "Much better game from us, the bowling did okay, the batsmen let us down, very disappointing. It's not over yet, three big games coming up for us now. Amla is injured, not too serious, hopefully we'll get him ready for the next match. He was scheduled to come out to bat after the next wicket fell. I think we have the potential and the talent in the batting unit." He says the much-improved fielding was one of the positives today.

Dinesh Chandimal: "When I went to bat, we were four down, I just assessed the pitch and then played my normal game. We played on the same pitch before, that's why I opted to bat first. Angelo will come in for the next game, we have our fingers crossed for winning the game."

Another choke maybe? Technically not, as there were no trophies up for grabs. It still hurts.

India tour of Zimbabwe, 1st ODI: Zimbabwe v India at Harare, Jul 24, 2013

http://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe-v-india-2013/engine/current/match/643665.html

India won the toss and elected to bowl

Zimbabwe 228/7 (50 ov)
Sikandar Raza 82 (112)
Mishra 3/43

India 230/4 (44.5 ov)

Kohli 115 (108)
Rayudu 63* (84)
Utseya 2/34

India won by 6 wickets (with 31 balls remaining)

A simple chase for India, as was widely expected. Virat Kohli displayed his class once more, guiding the chase responsibly. Zimbabwe's bowlers struggled to trouble India, erring on the pads quite often. Ambati Rayudu looked solid at the crease on his first appearance on the international stage, staying till the very end and scoring the winning runs.

Its Presentation time. Brendan Taylor: First hour was vital, We didn't lose any wickets but we could have been a bit more proactive. Against a quality side like India we needed 270 on the board. Sikandar Raza played very well, showing good composure despite having hardly played any games. Prosper Utseya was good with the ball and hopefully next time we can come out and express ourselves a little better.

Virat Kohli is the Man-of-the-Match. Happy with the win. Always good to kick off a tour with a win and personally I was happy with the way I played. The ball was moving around a bit early on and it was all about percentage cricket, rotating the strike and then playing your shots at the end. Our bowlers did a very good job up front. The new ball was doing quite a bit in the morning and with two new balls you can't count any team out. Congratulations to Ambati Rayudu, he's got an India call-up after a long time and he's grabbed his opportunity very well.

Really hope Zimbabwe play well in that series, my country of birth so secretly I sometimes support them over SA :p

Sadly I think the DL method is the least of our problems! I really like AB, but is he captain material?

In the current team, I would rather have Faf as the captain. AB has got too much to do as keeper and batsmen. Great player and he'd always be No. 4 or 5 in my team list, but I do not think he is the person to captain the side.

Ha! Another! My wonderful missus was also born there. I haven't had the pleasure of travelling the country yet.

I am also hoping they play well. Even if they do not beat India, I really want to see them grow in strength. Just too many mediocre scores and not enough knuckling down.
