DayZ Standalone pre-Alpha - Finally here

Took the plunge over the weekend and bought it.

How to suck at dayz guide:
Finished downloading then the ADSL died.
Game actually worked with 3G so I got onto an SA server.
30 seconds into the game, 3 okes come across me( trying to figure out the buttons), kills me instantly, laughing.
lesson learned: stay away from other players.

Respawn and start walking, zombie attacks me, I figure out how to punch him and he goes down just to get up again so I run and bandage myself. Eventually pass out of hunger or something.

Respawn and go to some building close by, get an uber machine gun with bullets!, somehow fall off building, dead.
lesson learned: everything is trying to kill you.

Check some vids on youtube and decide to head inland.
Respawn and run around forever getting nice food, gun cleaning kits, etc etc but still no backpack.

Saw freshly spawned okes chase each other. Saw bandits(anyone geared is now a bandit IMHO) on top of a building as I was climbing the ladder, snuck away and ran like crazy. Saw an oke just sitting by a well looking at me not responding. Met one oke and travelled with him a bit, he seemed quite knowledgeable but I lost sight of him and could not find him again.
 
The sooner you accept that everything and everyone hates you and wants you to die the more fun you will have haha. I am taking a break from the game as at this stage in the alpha there is nothing to do end game except hunting other players which in my opinion defeats the whole trying to survive objective your are suppose to be following. To assume anyone geared are bandits will definitely keep you alive longer. The guys playing this game is anything but friendly but I find if I can get the drop on them and ask if they are friendly you do meet some decent guys but deep down I know If I didn't talk to them first they would have probably shot me in a mili second.

Get a backpack, walk through a wall and die

Spawn in some random place at night.
Run forever and now I can only crawl cause I'm dying of hunger

Eish, it's get food but no storage vs get a backpack but no food
 
The game is definitely gonna be awesome, I just think we need to give it some more time, let them add the things they have planned, its fun now but it doesnt have much to do once you have a decent kit, other than go kill other players.

One can only hope but I feel that there is allot of potential the updates are getting bigger and the progress seems to be expanding at an exponential rate. That and I think the crafting will be getting much more robust seeing that the infrastructure is already in place. I do really do have high hopes now it is just the waiting game.

Yea I'm waiting more for the Zombie movement to be abit smoother, and the amount to be increased, they dont really pose much of a threat at the their current numbers. Also the minor technical improvements with player movement and such.

I understand its early access, and I was glad to buy the game in alpha, but I have so many other games at the moment to play so Im more than happy to wait while they update it. I know they are also working hard on their server infrastructure etc.
 
You put this on console and you will have a worldwide revolution. I can think of nothing better than being on a couch and laying this!! I loved the ARMA version, but running and sitting on an uncomfortable chair for hours upon hours got tedious. So many times I caught myself thinking of being on the couch with my xbox.....
 
All I can say is the game is far from ready, In my opinion I don't see this launching as a complete game before November this year.
 
Is it just me or is there a real shortage of bags? I have not found a backpack in my last 3 lives... am i just unlucky or does everyone struggle to find them?

It depends, I've noticed that item spawns depend on what city you are and the size of the city.
Its also random from server to server. I usually find back packs in those big barn and warehouse like structures.

I tend to find a lot of backpacks and axes in the construction site areas. But i've heard that they will make backpacks and weapons spawn less frequent in the upcoming patches. Don't know if this has already been implemented yet.
 
Sigh, just went unconscious again.
When I find a backpack I cannot find a rifle and vice versa. At this rate ill never survive the zombie apocalypse!!

Even died going through a wall in the dark.

I think going through a wall during the day would also kill you :P

I used your advice and went to the construction site in Electro and found a hiking backpack.. so thanks for that :D
 
Feetals gizz I finally have some decent clothes and a can opener!!!!
But now I cannot find a backpack and the zombies are suddenly more and more persistent.
Eish, so close to surviving more than a hour...
