Devs/Pubs are killing PC gaming

As I said in another thread a while ago. It used to help regulate the quality of the market, it was incentive for devs to make there games better.

If you work you ass of for 3 years to make a game, only to have it pirated by a few million douchbags out there how would that motivate you to make them better?

Because a it might just make a few of those million feel guilty and want to buy it instead.

why becuase the game is "bad" and that "bad" lable coming from some self proclaimed gamer somewhere from the bowels of the internet. That argument is so flawed its not even funny. Thats like saying women are responsible for rapes coz if they keep their husbands/bf's happier at home they wont go out and rape. What total BS.

Every game ever made has people who love it and people who hate it. Even 2 worlds a game that if unanimously labled as a horrid, horrid game, has people who like it. So who gets to decide whats a bad game? If the game is bad don't buy it, but if the game is so bad then why pirate it? And if you didn't know the game was "bad" you should have done more homework.

Piracy of things have been going on for ages. Back in the day you could not print the bible because you did not have the rights to it. Fast forward and you technically are not allowed to tape stuff of the tv.

and they shoulda called faggotry instead...

less people would've been inclined to do it then...

Standards come into play, it's not just about good or bad, theres also games that are worth playing, but not worth paying for. And piracy reinforced that, if a company didn't make a game to high standards, they would have had considerably less buyers and more pirates. People used to have standards, they wouldn't just have baught anything. Now, thats not the case anymore, and game quality is going down.

i think everyone hated damnation to be honest, otherwise you are quite correct omega

Im sure if you look hard and deep enough you will find some guy or gurl who will say it was an okish game.

But what Raven is saying is becuase some lonely fat guy who hides in his moms basement and has illusions of elitism calls himself a hardcore gamer says "Daring Danny Dipshit" is a "bad" game we must now all concede. I the mean time fat basement dwelling elitish gamer dude pirated D.D.D to make sure not to waist his hard earned pocket money on it.

As long as you don't sell the porn you taped on Etv last friday. You can record programs on tv if its for personal viewing only. Its called Theft Tsar. No matter which bells or ribbons u try and tie around it. It remains theft.

Who decides the game isn't made to hight enough standards? You? Tsar? Me?

I tell you what give me a list of titles that YOU played but felt wasn't worth paying for. And i bet you, i BET you i can find people, as in more than one, that will disagree. Standards my ass. Not every studio out there has the 17 million dollars to produce a title with AAA grade polish. So what about the indy market? Are indy games bad coz they aren't produces to AAA "Standards"?

For every moaning twat out there complaining about MW2's short campaign and lack of dedicated servers there are 10 people praising the campaign even though its short.

All piracy does is harm the industry and if people loved this industry then they simply wouldn't pirate. But i like how its always the guyz who talk about how important gaming is to them that end up coming up with idiotic arguments like these. If gaming is important to you then you will pay for a title. Even if it doesn't live up to your expectation. You dont pirate the game coz it maybe wont live up. Coz that harms the industry.

Heres an example of pirating a game thats playing, but not paying is like.

Theres a movie, it's not worh going to the cinema, it's not worth detting the DVD, but you'll gladly wait to watch it on TV.

For games, the effort of waiting is replaced by the effort of downloading it and the risk of viruses.

You are still paying for that movie with your dstv sub/tv license fee.;)

Its called DVD rental.

You still pay for it on tv. Which ever tv channel you watch it on paid royalties to broad cast it, you pay them a tv licence or subscription amount. So you pay for what you watch on tv.

If you download the game no money goes back to the publisher or creator, no royalties are paid. If you use something without paying for it thats Theft, no ifs buts or maybes about it.

Your grasping at straws.

Who here played HGL? /raises hand
Who here bought HGL? /raises hand
Who here was disappointed with HGL? /raise both hands

So, was that just cause for me to give up on spending my hard earned cash and go back to piracy? Nope, I bought Titan Quest and, well look, it is running in the background on my lappy here at work (I have it covered up with crappy spreadsheets).

The point I am trying to make is that there will be games that I deem crappy and there will be games that I will love. But love or hate the game, it does not give me the right to steal it. Theft is theft no matter how you look at it.

Devs / Publishers are perhaps contributing to the decline in PC gaming but they are not the root cause of it.

As to PC vs other Platforms, each to their own. My daughter loves my X-Box as the controllers are the coolest DVD remotes around! I prefer my PC for the genre of games I play.
