Diablo 3 Beta - Feedback :}

Just depends on what time investment we are talking about here, if it takes 60hours (random number) for two play throughs then you can't really call someone who stops there a casual. :)

I for one am definitely going to try hit max level on at least 1 character. In D2 my highest char was a level 92 Barb. Those were school days so I'd imagine now with the amount of time I have available for gaming it is going to take me quite some time. But I will happily invest my time into it :)
As for the Nephalem Valor, I think it is "a way" of trying to promote sticking with your build. But I'm not sure if it's the best way. Sure it beats the hell out of stacking +magic find sets but there are many ways they could implement a system that promotes you sticking to one build. Even so, they system that is used should not scorn players for wanting to change builds, which is going to be a huge part of D3.

Here's a nice example of the stutter that's currently plaguing the beta, note that this doesn't happen to everyone, but it does make the game near unplayable at times.

WoW that's pretty bad. I've experienced some "stutter" in my beta but nothing this bad. Latency on the other hand is usually around 350ms on Mweb ISP. Considering these server's are hosted in the US for the beta, I am positive it will be a lot better once the EU server's go live for retail.

My bro and his friend both had the same problem, it seems like the Beta client is downloading the full game client in the background and is the cause for the stuttering. So they both left the game running overnight and when they came back to play it was smooth again.

Try it out and see if that helps, bearing in mind the full client I think is 15GB, so how long it takes to download will be different.

"I dont have enough spirit" - meme wave incomming!! :p

That lag looked more like PC lag IMO, like a memory leak.

I experienced this "stuttering" last night and it was quite bad :|
After quiting I noticed Bnet was happily downloading some crap at full line speed so of course my game was kak'ing out.
I must say with the latest patch the Rune system is pretty cool. Pity you can't unlock more runes in the beta.

You're able to play? My launcher just says downloading 0% and stays there forever...

Yeah I did a full playthrough last night from 6:30 - 8pm with no issues after updating. But that launcher is pretty broken at the best of times..

It took me 4 days off Googling and experimenting to fix this. Even the official forums weren't much help, but the thread that did help was this one. The only thing I did differently, was in step 2 I deleted both the Agent as well as the Launcher folders. This forces the game to grab fresh copies of these files, which seems to have been the culprits.

Nice find thanks, going to give that a shot.

Easier solution :)

1. Run Diablo 3 launcher.
2. Watch it get stuck on "Updating Tools/Game/Whatever".
3. Ctrl-Alt-Del -> Task Manager.
4. Kill the "Agent.exe".
5. Click Play button.
6. ??????
7. Profit.

I'll say it again... ADD ME Phatso#2511 (please)

I did that until I was blue in the face. I followed every solution on the forums, including that one, reinstalling on a different PC and copying over the agent files, copying over both agent and launcher, etc. etc. The only one that worked for me was the one I linked. It seems that sometimes an update file doesn't always download properly, and this then causes agent to loop infinitely.

That said, don't be afraid to try Phatso's method, it worked for loads of other people. If that fails, go to mine ;)

Is it possible to get a poll in here to see what speed connections people are using and what type of latency they are getting. I know its from the US servers but it does serve as a worst case scenario.

I tried the open beta for Path of Exile on the weekend. If you're not sure what that game is, it's pretty much trying to be Diablo (which is cool). Anyway, I had to connect to the game servers in Europe and there was little to no noticeable lag. Like you could probably notice is when you pick up and drop an item in your inventory, but really tiny. I've got a 4mbps line so I'm guessing latency was between 180-200ms. I would pick up D3 regardless of whether I tried this out or not, but it definitely proves to me that there should be no latency issues... unless BNet somehow manages to handle its server-load worse than a small studio in comparison.

Isengard I told ya come get the client from me :P

That won't help, the client still launches launcher.exe when running, which will still fail to update. I tried with my housemate's client when mine was borked.

@Isengard: Did you follow Phatso's and my instructorials yet?
