Dota 2

I report someone as soon as they tell me to report someone for being a noob. I rarely report guys for feeding. It has to be clearly intentional feeding, not someone feeding because they not that great at the game.

And that's how it should be. That's why is is no report option for "bad play" and only for intentional feeding.

Just had a game now where we killed 2 guys 7 times in 6 minutes. Then the one rage quits. May I report him? :P

Sure why not. Rage quit is another thing that deserves punishment imo. It takes the fun away from the winning team. The same reason for there being no surrender button.

i will NOT let anyone ruin my good time by calling me out.

And feeding, playing like a total chop with one of the hardest heroes to master in the game, causing your team to lose, aggravating them? That's ok, as long as you're having a good time?

"Oh hey buddy, yeah, no problem dying all those times, feeding their team. It's ok that you took Pudge for the first time ever, and demanded mid, then died 8 times in the first 8 minutes. We honestly didn't mind just throwing away the last 40 minutes of our lives for you. Here, have a hug. You're made of win." How about NO.

Honestly guys - if you've NEVER played a hero before, especially one that you really can't get away with fucking up on, play it against bots first - you'll be doing yourself, and the four other random guys you'll be teaming up with, a huge favour.

And yes, playing badly, feeding the other team, and wasting your team mates' time is reportable as far as I'm concerned. Don't get me wrong: we all have bad games, but we quickly realise what's happening, and try and adjust our game, so as to not further feed, etc. This guy was just plain terrible, and his only response was "first time pudge lol" and "xD", so yes, we all reported him.

I thought above 50% win rate was the norm O.o

I'm the lucky guy who gets 5-carry teams, or four supports, with no warding, mechs, etc. Or my new favourite: 3 junglers. Really. :D

You must remember that dota does not have surrender so its not like lol where one character gets op you can just surrender.dota you have to wait an hour for the winning team to get all the items they want before they will actually finish.

^This. You have to sit there and take it with no lube, while the other team just takes their time clearing everything. If you're lucky, someone on your team rage quits, you take the loss like a man, and you can get into a new game, and try again. This rarely happens, though.

I disagree generally with reporting peeps for playing badly, especially after playing a 1st time chen (worst Chen ever played, seriously, I broke all sorts of records that night, ask InSanity) in Single Draft mode (all the heroes were heroes I'd never played, Chen being the only support). Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a reasonably good support (my primary role in most games), but that game was purely horrible and I was probably (scratch the probability, there's no doubt :o) the reason we lost that game. Now, I have a 53.26% win rate (196 wins vs 172 losses), which would mean that I'm somewhat experienced.

So how does a player with some level of experience fail that badly regardless of the fact that he or she's playing a hero for the 1st time?

Sometimes people need to remember, that the mindset of the lowest common denominator in the team (the weakest link) in a game that's not going as hoped, differs from the rest of team (no matter how experienced, because I've seen some things that would get a person flamed in pubs happening in top tier competitive games). The rest of the team knows that they're losing because player A is playing a terribly but they'll still try their best to salvage a game, but said player A's analysis of the game, and by proxy their gameplay is impaired because they know that they're the weak link, and as you all know, Dota is one game that punishes mistakes that are made (if you're playing a good team anyway ).

Now imagine all that going through Player A's mind; you're the weakest link in the game, you're probably the reason your team is losing, every mistake you're making is compounding the effect of the previous 2 thoughts. Strain on top of strain (at least in my delightful Chen experience).

Now, you obviously can't play a record breaking Chen without being praised for it, can you (yes, that's sarcasm :p)? I had one guy who eventually tuned the hell out of me, even if I apologized earlier and repeatedly explained my hero selection predicament. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying each player who has a horrible game has the same experience (in terms of situations) as I did, but their reason for playing a bad game can vary and you can never truly know if they're valid or not (who is qualified to say what is a reason valid or not?). I've even had a few horrible Jakiro games (my favorite hero), even one where a guy was like I should never play that hero ever again.

I almost never report for playing horribly (I even tune my clan mates sometimes for doing so), unless you admit to intentional feeding (a few guys have actually done that).

TL;DR I only ever report peeps for abusive language, being jerks, and general bad attitude.

---------------------------------

I understand what you're saying. My point was that this guy had a similar level to mine and purposely picked a hero (All Pick) he had never played before. For all I know, this guy may just have been a troll - there is literally no other explanation for it. At my level (50+ now) I've learned a lot about the game, and it's heroes (I've made a point of playing all of them at least once - either with four other friends if it's the first time, or against bots). This guy really did not have a clue.

I only report assholes!

Unfortunately you will get people who can't play the game in your team every now and then. Nothing we can do about it, but being an asshole and telling him to delete Dota or remove himself from existence isn't going to help either. Precisely one of the things that's wrong with SA Gamers, instead of helping the guy we take them apart. Bad attitude guys

I'm definitely not that guy: I have an extremely high tolerance level. I'm the motivator in every game I play, whether it's with my team, or in a pub. I'm always on comms, giving compliments ("well played guys!" or "nice one, Omni!") when we're doing well, and building us up ("ouch, unlucky guys" or "sooooo close with that hook Pudge! You'll get it next time") when we're not.

I was in a game the other night where one of the guys was obviously new (gg fucked matchmaking), and one of the experienced guys on our side just kept raging and swearing at this poor dude the whole game, and he wasn't even playing that badly (he finished like 5-8 on Zeus). The rest of us tried to help the new guy throughout the game, but this other guy was just a complete fucking asshole, so we all muted and reported him. The other team did too, as he was also raging in chat. South African, btw. I have no problem with noobs, or helping them ever: we were all level 1 once.

I have to admit, The raging is a seemingly uniqely south african problem.

I'm about 130 games into Dota 2 so I'm not nearly pro, but I have enough experience over quite a few MOBA games to know a couple things for certain heroes. There are basic rules to every sort of "genre" of hero but after playing 100s of matches the same way every time, you can only imagine a level 40 dude would want to start trying different heroes and different play styles. I make a habit of playing many different heroes but even I end up playing a select few very often, simply because i want to get really good at playing them. I cannot be mad at someone who just wants to try out a new hero and also try out non-typical strategies etc. That's how the game develops in the long run.

There are obviously the cases where someone just feeds and that sucks but it's an online game staple for there to be trolls. Here I would recommend the Warcraft 3 mechanic of the VP. (For those who don't know, VP'ing is vote punish which basically cuts a few levels from you after 6 of your fellow players have voted for it) Albeit VP was reserved for leavers and rage quitters, sometimes it's clearly obvious someone is feeding. If you were a very low level (eg 1 or 2. The VP wouldn't really do much and it would be wasted on you. Not only that but the lobby was geared so that only players of a certain level could join other games of the same level or lower keeping the higher levels "pure" and for pro's and the lower levels for players who weren't as good.

I would love to see the lobby system added to join matches you want to based on the level of the host and those that join. That way you don't have to waste 40 minutes running around tearing up the absolute noobs, suffer rage quits, etc.

SA Dota really is awesome in terms of quality and fun style of play, but we do have a massive problem with ragers and flamers. It does suck when one dude on your team won't stop complaining about one dude. You shouldn't have to mute someone on your team. In this case other servers are a lot better. Euro servers so far are the best I've seen where for the most part everyone is really quiet, but when they do communicate , everyone is really friendly and amenable, but you won't find noteworthy teamwork happening with awesome teamfights and general action packed things happening. It's the sacrifice you make for friendliness.

you are taking it out of context. i made it clear that if a guy insults or belittles me for my mistakes, thus ruining my game for me, then i could not care less about his game. but if he at least tries some constructive criticism on me, giving some advice, suggesting tactics and so on, then i will most certainly listen to that advice. but if someone comes out with a stinky attitude telling me how much i suck, but have no details on what exactly i did wrong, and then expect me to change? how about NO.

Agreed. I rarely get any rage on the EU or USA servers. Sure, "omg noob!", "wtf?!", "zzzz" and "reported" fly around all the time, but never people raging on comms.

You clearly haven't played Dota 2 much. SA doto in terms of quality is very very bad when compared to EU, people can't play for sh*t. And no the majority of EU people aren't friendly, there are a lot more assholes there than on SA servers.

Excluding Russians i think his statement is fairly on the mark.

Actually 3 mins.playing as huskar I had shadow blade under 4 mins.he should have run for thw hills, especially when they played so aggressive

Ja dude, what I really don't get is the guys that lane against you with very quishy heroes and kap it so hardcore aggresive that they end up just dying each time. Then they complain about it and leave :<.

Preach preacher that chen game was pro I was luaghing so hard 22 minute level 6 :D but I know for a fact dee on form = best support we played a tourney game where he was jakiro and the commentator was going insane at the ice paths he was landing

Seems like the Russians have taken a break from our servers for the past couple of days. Now the Indonesians and Peruvians have found their new favourite hangout. The Indo's were my favourite: they kept complaining about how shit our server was, cause they had 500ms and lag, playing from Asia... needless to say, they lagged out, and cost us the game. Credit where it's due: they could speak a bit of English at least. The Peruvians? NO HABLO!

Yes eks nog heel lewendig. Ekt 'n extended breek van gaming gevat(wel die competitive side).

Hoe lyk dinge nog met julle manne?

Hi Guys,

I don't post here very often, however, I'm sure there's tons of people in the community who might be interested.

I posted this on Facebook this morning, there seems to be quite a lot of interest.

Hi Guys,
My totally noob Dota team is planning on starting up a little in-house league type deal. We're looking for between 6 - 8 teams, to compete 1 per week, over a 2 - 3 month period. This is a complete amateur league, around 100 - 1000 games played, ofc, there might be some teams with a pretty experienced player or two, this shouldn't be a problem.
If anyone is interested in streaming/casting these games just to get some experience, you're also more than welcome to!
This is mostly for fun and practice, there are already a couple of leagues out there I know, but none who cater for complete noobs, this one does.
If you're interested add me on Steam, http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198079255138/
