Hi everyone.. Just installed Eve Online.. making my way slowly through the tutorial.. Learning the ropes so to say.. watching some videos on youtube.. Would just like to know if anyone here would like to help out a newbie. A friend and I are looking at joining up so there will be 2 of us trying to learn and some help will be greatly appreciated. Even a couple of websites / guides to have a look at to help. I seem to have found a youtuber by the name of sprintonwater who seems to have some tips with getting your HUD customized.. Thanks in advanced guys.
Contact R'onin in game if you need to chat and need help. If I am on, I will help for sure!
First thing: I can REALLY recommend a training institution like eve university
http://www.eveuniversity.org/
Not only do they have out of game pages and pages of info, they also have recorded audio classes and, once you are in game with them, real live classes where you learn by following example in game.
They will also set you up in a wide range of member corporations once you know what you want to do.
First thing you need to decide is what do you want to do in Eve and then work towards that. Let's list some of the broad categories of Eve then I will advise on some of the good routes to get there:
1. Mining
The easiest way to make in game money (ISK) at the start of the game. You need very little in the way of skills (game terms not real skill) to make a success of this. It is also, however, the least exciting venture in Eve. Your miner stares at rocks and fires off lasers at those rocks, collects the rocks and turns the rock into minerals and then sells them.
Find a highsec corporation that specialises in mining, they will help you a lot.
2. Industry
Industry is a natural extension of mining as you use the minerals you mine/refine and turn it into ships and ship modules which you then sell for ISK. If you are into that kind of thing it really is rewarding and can build up to you making your own space cities/refineries etc. Most industrial corps can help you with this too.
3. PVE
PVE in eve has quite a few options available:
1. Missions: static missions that allow you to make ISK and shoot AI bad guys
2. Incursions: high end static shooting of AI bad guys with a group of people
3. Ratting: where you shoot AI bad guys by the ton and collect bounties for them
PVE can be exciting, you shoot things, they shoot back, you make ISK.
4. PVP
There are so many options for PVP in eve, some allow you to make ISK and most allow you to lose ISK ;-)
The best place to learn PVP and be able to make some ISK is faction warfare. The reason is that most faction warfare happens with small and cheap ships PLUS there are some very helpful corporations and alliances that will take you in and train/equip you. They do this for 2 reasons: firstly they are hoping you stay and become another soldier on the front lines and secondly, most of those people have gone through the same learning experience and want to make it easier on others.
5. Exploration
This is the oddest one out of all the options. It takes a lot of patience, some skills (game terms) and real skill but can be very rewarding, especially if you enjoy travelling a LONG way out of your comfort zone and finding new (for you) stuff/places. It can also be very dangerous.
