FarCry 3 announced (E3)

Yup, that's the insinuation I wanted to make, well spotted. Although, not precisely though. It's definitely holding the advancement back. It doesn't seem like this game will bring anything new to Far Cry. At least they got rid of the super bad shooting mechanics and terrible ragdolls from Far Cry 2, but this really just looks a bit too bland.

No my friend morons are holding back advancement, advancement doesn't sell. More of the same, that sells. MW3? Idiot gamers who buy any piece of shit coz it looks pretty, they are holding advancement back.
Publishers want to make money, they are not going to risk millions of dollars on a project gamble when they can just release more of the same for the Legion to eagerly gobble up & so be assured of a good return.

Yes, but then again, how many games are made specifically for PC nowadays?

If I had to list them they would be...hmm....

BF3. :D

And Witcher 2. But that's about the only ones I can think about! Even one of my favourite games ever is a console port. BFBC2. :/

Like Murph said same old sad song. We've been through this, its a numbers game; there are simply more people who play on console than pc. And developing it separably for each platform isn't viable.

God you guyz can whine about Bullshit. Rather than go "awesome another game to look forward to" its just "my poor pc isn't getting the love it deserves."

Fucking whiny gamers worse than trolls.

That's it bru, repress the developers like DICE that actually push the limits. Way to go! Plus, a fussy guy like you shouldn't really be making comments like that.

At least my mind is open enough to see when real quality is on display instead of going googly eyed over DNF or something other tripe.
Before you call a man fussy, go look at his library.

Who said I might even buy DNF? I'm going to wait a long time after the reviews before I decide, besides, it's not wrong to get excited and not buy it, instead of buying it before getting excited.

So, basically, what you're saying to me is that you can tell from that preview that this game is going to be a piece of mastery, oh glory personified, yet, at the same time, when I make my own judgments, according to my own opinion, which I clearly stated was my own, you call me closed minded? Lol. Fabulous!

How about, before judging a man, look at his tastes. My opinion- whether you like it or not, it's still mine. The fact is, as boring as the subject might be, consoles are holding back innovation and thank God for developers like DICE who actually thought "Hey, why the fuck don't we start using DX11 and the immense range of new features it brings?!" Maybe even make the games look a thousand times better while incorporating new gameplay ideas and pioneering a new age for video games? Why the hell not?

Even Brink looked more fun and exciting than this has so far, and we all know how that turned out! So I'm definitely not holding thumbs for this game.

Im just ticked coz ur going down the whole "consoles are preventing advancement" path again. But im not in the mood or mode to argue the fact, again, so instead ill just do this....

Start an argument and then just walk away. I get it.

Nope this isn't the place for this argument, plus we've had this argument before. Definition of insanity son, attempting the same thing and expecting a different result. So I'm bowing out before I get the urge to start calling people morons again.

Go for it, you've done it enough for me have it roll off like water off a duck's back. The definition of insanity has nothing to do with this in my opinion.

PS

the definition of insanity isnt actually as OmegaFox wrote

go read the dictionary...

thats not what insanity means

But consoles are limiting games in a large way. Better technology exists, to make games look better and even play better. Adding more dynamics. Destructible environments. Better shadows that kind of thing that can enhance different genres. But because consoles have a fixed hardware setup for 4-5 years or however long they last before a new one comes along, games eventually reach their zenith.

I'm glad so many console players enjoy playing the same thing over and over. And yes, I'm a console owner myself and love certain games on it, but I can clearly see where things would and do look and play better on PC. And I don't mean a keyboard & mouse vs a controller.

Why can DICE do BF3 as a PC based development and still make tons of cash and then port that to console and make even more cash, but other developers can't?

Actually, moron, that was a reference to the video. Since in it (the video) a charter spouts that as the definition of insanity multiple times. Personally I am more inclined to thinking that doing the exact same thing, like for example having the same exact argument, and expecting a different result is the definition of STUPIDITY. Which is why I have decided not to have this argument with Tooken, or anybody else for that matter, again.

I am well aware than insanity is actually defined as:

Insanity, craziness or madness is a spectrum of behaviors characterized by certain abnormal mental or behavioral patterns. Insanity may manifest as violations of societal norms, including becoming a danger to themselves and others, though not all such acts are considered insanity. In modern usage insanity is most commonly encountered as an informal unscientific term denoting mental instability, or in the narrow legal context of the insanity defense. In the medical profession the term is now avoided in favor of diagnoses of specific mental illness such as schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.[1] When discussing mental illness in general terms, "psychopathology" is considered a preferred descriptor.[2]
In English, the word "sane" derives from the Latin adjective sanus meaning "healthy". The phrase "mens sana in corpore sano" is often translated to mean a "healthy mind in a healthy body". From this perspective, insanity can be considered as poor health of the mind, not necessarily of the brain as an organ (although that can affect mental health), but rather refers to defective function of mental processes such as reasoning. A Latin phrase for "sane" is "compos mentis" (lit. "of composed mind"), and a euphemistic term for insanity is "non compos mentis". In law, mens rea means having had criminal intent, or a guilty mind, when the act (actus reus) was committed.

I also asked myself that very questions

turns out the "porting" is by far easier to do from console to PC....

also Devs also have sepecific dev tools for console so im guessing many modern Devs such as IW payed for these tools which are NOT cheap and lets not forget subscription and updates for the Dev tools they are using.

It seems far easier to port to PC than to console, i personally think it comes down to having it perfect ont he XBOX platform and runnable on PC/PS3 IMO, Microsoft are money theives.

But Den your point is sooo valid, its just DICE thinking ahead really, they are smart for doin so....

Partly to the fact that it fits into their make more money vs. making a good game model. Many people's cop-out for this is "But they need to make their money bla bla." Fackin' BS! They'll get my money if they can make a proper game. This year was the turning point for me where I finally decided that it was the last straw. I will not buy a shit game again. And I will be staying as far away from console ported games as I possibly can.

If people like bending over and taking it, good for them! Developers that use this excuse of "tis cheaper to make for console first" are going to have a field day with them. Enjoy the screwed up FOV, suck-ass mouse movement and shitty controls in your games, but I'm so over that BS.

Logically, there is one thing you're doing right here. Calling people idiots or morons is always the easy way out.

Even so

1st off, play nice, you the first person i ahve come across in this forum with a bad attitude, maybe youre just having a kak day....

Whilst i do understand the perhaps your were reffering to the quote from the game which i did watch, you came across as quoting the text as if it were indeed a correct definition, quoting it to Rambo seemed so atleast

But hey, just relax there, this is a debate and if you want to debate then make sure you dont call people names

Games are no longer made by die-hard fanatics who love gaming, they are made by money hoarding assholes like Kotick.

Games in general are no longer played by die-hard nerds who would spend weeks with mod tools making their own maps or mods.

Just like most industries/professions where in the past people became doctors because they genuinely wanted to cure the world and guys became cops because they wanted to protect people, modern life has made it that people do whatever they need to, to make as much money as possible. No longer are you buying your electronics from a guy who loves and knows everything about TV's or Hi-Fi's because he is a complete nut for it, but you are buying from some dude who has a job and couldn't give shit.

Just so games are being made more and more by people who may once have been nerds, but saw that there is BILLLIONS to be made and thus sacrifice quality for sheer mass produce. And sadly, consoles have made this trend even worse, because any Joe Schmoe can pick up a controller and play his Halo or COD with it and appear to be pretty good and thus make him/her feel good. And thus consoles prevail, not because they are superior to PC gaming, but because Joe Public in general will buy any crap if there is enough hype and hooplah made about it.

While they exist it remains non viable to import them. RAGE is a brilliant example of this, Id is managing to push technology further using the same generation consoles. Any developer can make a game that looks like Crysis 1 and has photo realistic particle effects, explosions, destructions but it will only run on a 10K plus machine. Even then it looks shit, to get the perfect visuals you all seem to so desperately crave you are going to need a killer rig. That limits who you can market said game to. Where as scale it all back a bit and you can market it to a much wider audience. BFBC 1 & 2 gave us destructible environments with decent visuals on all 3 platforms.

The X360 has been around for 5 years now and yet here comes Id with Rage running smoothly on the platform. Gifted Dev teams find ways to push the hardware even further.

Already this "debate" is following the exact same lines as all the countless others out there.

I dont like being corrected, especially if the correction is wrong as pointed out above. If you wanna play grammar, spelling or definition nazi, make sure u know what I am talking about.

Nope I have a shitty attitude, read the sig. I am just so extremely fucking tired of this whiner attitude that is so prominent among gamers.

You seem to have also made up your mind, therefore you have closed our mind to opinion....except yours ofcourse

Dont get mad, im just being real here

in a debate people bring facts and the counter-arguments upon those stated facts thats what debates are about....keep that in mind :)

its coming across as less of a debate and more of a "what i believe is right and you cant change my mind" sort of discussion
