I am having a struggle coming up for a scenario where stoneskin is actually useful, maybe I understand it wrong ;-P. Isnt it a a one hit buff, you take one hit and its gone and it has a 2.5 sec cast time? How would you use it in combat other than soaking up a swiftcast to put it on a tank for one hit? I have it, just never seen a use for it.

I tried using mouse over healing a while back with the mouse over macro but I must really suck because as soon as someone runs through my mouse cursor it goes all pear shaped and the next heal heals someone else other than the tank.

Maybe if someone explains to me how to use it, I could try it again.

I don't use it on the tank. I use it on myself and ranged DPS because it helps absorb *some* AoE boss damage and also softens the blow of mishaps i.e. when DPS aggro mobs, etc. I've found it pretty useful for that purpose.

I dont bel;ieve its a one hit buff...I have had it on before...got hit more than once before it wears off. Also its really awesome to absorb a lot of damage..maybe save you from a 1-hit death skill on a boss...means u save needing to be rezzed. Like sarah said...its really god for the squishies. I per sonally think everybody should have it...especially squishy dps. If i can re-cast mine in between casting dps if it wears off...would help a stack

Ahhh good to know! I will use it more often then, so it takes 10% of your HP before going away, thats about 300 for casters, not bad. Wish the cast time was better though.

I use Adloquium which is a group shield and small heal +heal over time for the same reason on my Scholar every now and again through out a boss fight.
Garuda for example hardly does any damage to group with that and sacred soil up.

Maybe if someone explains to me how to use it, I could try it again.

ah but see you don't hover over the people but hover over the peoples names in the party window ^_-
As the rest said stone skin is great at protecting the group at the start of a boss fight. this is the only real time you apply it unless you really have time when you have nothing to do in a fight.

Edit:

5 day free transfers coming for those of you stuck on another server and want to get on moogle:

and Edit 2 (LOL):

Greetings, everyone!

I'd like to give a brief official overview of the "MVP" system that was announced by Yoshida during TGS, as there is a lot of interest in how this will encourage players to be positive and helpful when using the Duty Finder.

This system is for groups that get matched in the Duty Finder and cannot be used when you pre-make parties to enter dungeons and other content. Once you clear the content, you'll be able to vote for a player you feel was helpful, positive, and friendly.

Accumulating these points will allow you to buy companion armor, new mounts, and other exclusive items.

This system is scheduled to be implemented in patch 2.1, and once further details have been finalized we will be sure to share them with you!

Not a fan of this since it means you basically get punished for doing a guild run or premaid. Basically forcing you to pug if you want any of these items.

I agree. I think a symbol next to your name plate or something that designates how "MVP" you are would be better. Attaching actual item rewards to it is a bad idea.

Have to agree. Popularity contests have never gone down well in any situation, least of all an MMO.

Something I would like to do at some point is run an 8 man arcanist run of say castrum and record it:

Main Tank: Summoner: Titan Egi
Off Tank: Arcanist: Topaz Carbuncle
Healer: Scholar: Eos Fairy
Healer: Scholar: Selene Fairy
DPS: Arcanist: Emerald Carbuncle
DPS: Summoner: Ifrit Egi
DPS: Summoner: Garuda Egi
DPS: Summoner: Garuda Egi

I think a video of this would look all kinds of awesome ^_^

Hahaha Frudi byt net vas. The others will be there soon and Nima and I will catch up after the weekend.

Lol, ek was nie van plan om dit te maak met pugs groups nie, wou net die tactics leer. Die ding raak befok na die heart phase...

Bwahahaha ek kan net imagine

I must say besides the bug where Hydra randomly ran to a person to use the fire ball, after we got a rhythm going it was rather easy. So far Ifrit HM is also easy if you get a great tank. Havent tried the other HM yet tho

Standard practice for me: do something new with pugs first and then with guild. I have no problem looking like an idiot in front of strangers, most of them not even from my server but I do have an issue about letting friends down.

I refuse to watch youtube videos about fights, much more fun learning it as I go along. PVE is such a dancefest anyways, I enjoy learning on the fly.

Dancefest: "step here, step there, use this ability here". I always have a quiet chuckle when people use terms like "boss tactics" or "boss strat" when it clearly is nothing of the sort. They should say "boss dance/sequence/script" rather. Boss fights become a test of muscle memory.
There is nothing tactical or strategic in boss fights by any real definition of the terms unless.....

Someone screws up a step and then the real fun begins as people try to come up with on the fly ways to rectify the situation, now that I like. Recovering by making on the fly decisions and succeeding after that... now that is an INCREDIBLE gaming high.

Which is why I run pug groups so much and why I love playing a healer. I don't have a "rotation", I use abilities as the situation presents itself, making choices on the fly. THIS is called tactical game play, making choices based on the current state of events. Other healers tell me: "you should place Sacred Soil during this stage on the ground between these 2 rocks". I laugh at them, I make my own choices. No one has ever had any reason to complain about my healing in any MMO that I have played so I must be doing something right.

Playing a DPS must be so incredibly boring after a while on the same encounter, using a rotation over and over with no deviation, no real choice. Ouch. Not using the "right" abilities in the "right" sequence makes you a "bad DPS", that is just insane. MMOs seem to define a "good player" as someone who uses youtube, remembers when to step here and there at this time, does research and play the game EXACTLY the same way as everyone else that is a "good player". Crazy I tell you. No creativity, no tactics, no strategic use of anything.

Ok rant off now, sorry for the wall of text assault, hope you know where to click at stage 2 of this demon wall of text fight or you will fail.

"No plan survives contact with the enemy" is true in the real world, I wish it was so in MMOs.

So we just testing a number of ADSL account tonight because we are on Mweb, it seems the general consensus is correct.

Afrihost Business 4mb bought and waiting.

@ Shrike....lol I agree 100% with you. DPS does get boring in fights sometimes...but I enjoy the other side of it....PvP and solo play where situations dictate you rotation.

I normally play a tank, and I find those also nice and challenging in tough situations. Its always when something goes wrong when you are tested. I just find playing tank in PvP to be very frustrating...hence I went Dmg dealer first this game...where I normally go tank.

Roomys we also testing the Axxess account...you can get 3gb free trial account...so far it has performed extremely well.
