Finally set up Netflix

ok but apparently if you want to stream ti through the xbox you have to be a gold member ?

Oh ya, you would have to at that. I do already happen to be a gold member so it's ok.

You can always stream to a PC that's hooked up to a TV, or use AppleTV if you have one

I know this is slightly off topic and maybe i should create a new thread but lets see

I have my Xbox in my lounge connected to my PC currently i use ps3 server or something like that to share movies and play through my xbox can i do something similar with this and just in general like if i want to stream youtube videos anybody know how i can achieve this ?

I signed up for everything on the pc, but I'm using the Netflix apps on xbox and ps3 to watch.

Step by step.

1. Sign up with Unotelly for the DNS service which will trick Netflix into thinking that you're in America http://www.unotelly.com/unodns/
2. Change the DNS servers in the DHCP on your router to an IP address you get from Unotelly. I also restarted the router, which seemed to get everything working.
3. Sign up for an account with Netflix
4. Download the Netflix apps on the consoles or PC, and sign in.

A couple of annoyances, you need an American address to register for Netflix, and you'll need a fake US account for your XBox or PS3 so you can download the apps, you'll need an extra email address and the aforementioned fake address for this as well.

You can generate an address using something like this http://www.fakenamegenerator.com/

The XBox annoyed me because even though the app is free, they won't let you "buy" it if you don't have a credit card or other payment option on file, so I had to add my credit card to my extra account.

My Visa card worked fine as a payment option for Netflix, I just needed a valid zip code for the payment details, I put 90210 and that worked.

Hey dude. Great job.
Could you also include a complete pricing on everything (i.e. DSL costs, ISP costs, Subscription costs, VPN cost).

I need a lovely example to give to the GF so I can get rid of DSTV when they install ADSL.

I also have a PS3 Media Server to play media to my XBox and PS3. For Netflix or Youtube though, the important thing is that the XBox needs an internet connection, the extra PC is irrelevant, unless of course you're using it for Internet Connection Sharing

Well, your DSL/ISP costs will depend on what connection you go for, and if you have a phone line already.

But let's say for the sake of argument that you have a phone line, but not ADSL. Let's choose 4Mbps uncapped from WebAfrica, that's R549 including line rental.

Unotelly looks like $4.95 month to month, or if you get a whole year, it works out to $3.99 per month but let's go with $4.95 (R52.85)

Netflix is $7.99 per month (R85.77)

Hulu Plus if you want that as well is also $7.99 by the look of it (R85.77)

So

R549 - Uncapped 4Mbps ADSL
R52.85 - Unotelly
R85.77 - Netflix
R85.77 - Hulu Plus

Total = R773 more or less, and you get uncapped internet in the deal for more or less the price of DSTV Premium with PVR. You can bring down the price by getting eg 2Mbps ADSL

If you already have internet, then for the whole package it's R224.39

Oh, ya look, you can stream from your own PS3 Media Server without gold membership because that doesn't go past your own local network, but to use YouTube or Netflix on the XBox, you'll need gold

Thank you so much for this.finally put it to rest with dstv bs.

PS. If you don't want to do the Xbox gold thing, plug that PC into your TV and get a wireless kb and mouse and then you can do YouTube and Netflix through the PC

One thing that might be a sticky topic is if anyone is dead set on having SuperSport.

I'm not and she isn't. Except for most of the afrikaans tv shows.which I justified that her viewing of afrikaans content is 10% out of the other American tv series/programmes. When you compare the cost vs viewing of certain content.it still makes sensr to watch these things over the internet.

Wifi.eish dude I know 720p content on a g type wireless isn't possible due to total bandwidth.

You could just just install the XBOX YouTube app, i think that will work.

Netflix is excellent, but you have to factor in the cost of UNCAPPED as well, so its a bit more expensive than you may initially think

Ya, if you have the internet already, it's 1/3rd of the price of DSTV, for way way more content, and you can choose what you want to watch when, not just what's being broadcast at the time.

Thats is, the majority of people looking into this will have internet and DSTV currently. Getting slightly better internet instead of DSTV is probably worth it.

Ya, and in my case, I cancelled DSTV a few months ago because it's too expensive, and we hardly watched it, but I already have 4Mbps uncalled ADSL, and that seems to handle it fine.

problem is its my gaming pc in my study so i cant really move it but i have a 3 months memebrship to gold lying around somewhere how much does xbox live cost though per month

If it's not called ADSL, then what is it called? ;) Hehe, but yeah, anybody who is already on Uncapped is in pole position to dig chance dstv for Netflix

Tell me, how are you finding 4mb line for streaming Netflix? Is it coping?

LOL, damn these mistyping fingers.

I only set it up last night, so I haven't got much experience yet, but it looks good. It won't stream in HD, but it's plenty watchable and no lag or anything

apparently it copes on a 1mb line so 4mb should be no problem

What I'm interested in seeing is how well online gaming copes while my wife is streaming Netflix in the other room
