Just a stupid question, I like asking them, rather than look stupid later:
Progression in Firefall is basically: use xp to upgrade the battelframe you are in, you upgrade the CPU, Mass, Power stats. To upgrade existing abilities/weapons or to get new ones, you have to craft them with resources you gather. These abilities/weapons are limited to the size of your suit CPU, Mass and Power stats.
Does this about summarise the progression? I cannot find anything anywhere about getting new or better abilities using the suit xp so I assume you have to craft them and then equip them if your suit stats allow.
As far as i can tell , yes. You can obviously buy more Battleframes which are not part of the default 5. You will see there's more "advanced" battleframes in the Garage.
Apparently the progression trees were more complicated in the past (and i saw blogs moaning about this) , but right now they're pretty simple.
So in a way it's quite simple.
1. You gain XP by doing missions, invasions (this includes upgrading bases etc), thumping (your own or from helping other players) and dynamic events ON the Battleframe you wear ONLY.
2.You gain resources by thumping, harvesting nodes and rewards from #1
3.You need XP to upgrade your battleframe
4.You need resources to craft improvements to latch onto your battleframe
5.Your battleframe needs to be upgraded BEFORE you can craft the items that improve your battleframe
6.Some craftables are not related to your battleframe (consumables typically).
And round and round it goes. The crafting recipes itself is probably the only complicated thing here, as alot of items need sub-items (again which needs to be crafted) and so forth. You can add optional components to improve the item you're crafting (it's those extra blocks to put in items, as far as i can tell, you only need to put something in the red blocks at minimum etc)
So essentially, you must like the actual gameplay (running, shooting, killing, thumping) otherwise you'll be bored pretty quickly. I expect alot of "grind" with this game in its current state, since you are essentially doing the equivalent of "dailies" and "farming" to progress.
Even in its current state, i've found alot of solo content, or rather content that you can do "on your own with others". Simple example, you don't need to put up a thumper, you can just see on the map where others are thumping and join them . I'm not aware of an xp penalty if 10 people stand around a thumper vs. 1 person.
I do however feel, they might want to add some depth with the progression. This implies more goals to work towards. Even EVE have some goals to work towards (i.e. "get biggest ship" , "make alot of money" , "mine extremely rare minerals" etc etc). In Firefall it's kinda unclear what one should be aiming towards, crafting a vehicle? Then what?
