Guild Wars 2

Some of the stuff that'll be available in the Gamescom demo.

Having read through it - I have to say it's beginning to depress me a little bit. There's too much of, this is being changed, that is being changed, this feature isn't available in the game yet ... etc etc.

Their "When it's ready" statement is starting to work on my nerves now - 2 years full of reveals and information and stuff - and the best they're giving us is ... "When it's ready". It really is busy turning into Guildwars Forever.

Sadly you're right. Game-marketing-hype is the worst thing developers can do.

A few teasers here and there should be all they divulge.

I honestly believe that teasers, demos, and the kind of information that ANet's been releasing should only be released when they have a near finished product and a firm release date in mind. They've been doing an awesome job at marketing the game, but they make you wait, and wait and wait, until you just want to throw your hands in the air and say "fuckit!!" And you start looking for other things to keep you busy. Hence me considering actually looking at SWTOR, even though I don't really want to get dragged into another MMO at this point.

But seriously, I was hoping at one point, for this year, and then next year, and now I'm even starting to have my doubts about that.

I have to agree with it getting too much now, they constantly change stuff that worked, and try to improve it even more. I know they want to get the very best experience to their players, but I dont really like the weapon skill change :/.. the other thing sort of felt better. In the process of every change that they make now to 'improve' and the reader does not like it, it will just dehype it alot more; with alot of people just completely losing interest in following it.

They should remove all reveal-this content; starve us of information for the duration until the game is complete; release Beta and then everyone will be alot more interested again.

As MMO players we are now caught up in the PR battle between SWTOR and GW2, so incomplete titty bits are going to come flying our way, it is the way of the PR Force, titillate (smirks) your audience, keep them stroking their hopes of playing the game SOON (TM).

I love the PVP stuff they revealed. I am never a huge fan of MMO PvP, but will really love the hot-joinable matches, and then once in a while attempt an 8-team tournament. Have to watch the movie :(

I tend not to be a fan of PvP in general, although I liked GW1's system of being able to do PvP specifically when you wanted, and your character was set to max level when you played - making things a lot more balanced from the word go.

After my PvP experiences in Aion, I'll probably PvP a little more often, but at least it will be my choice, rather than some arbitrary ganking while I'm trying to quest.

100% Agreed, PVE & PVP should be different entities, (other) games combining the two is less fun in that aspect...

As someone who PvP'd quite extensively in WoW (I have since stopped altogether), I have to agree with you. Balancing PvE and PvP together was an absolute nightmare for Blizzard and still is 6 years later. Keep them apart and balance them seperately.

I was really hoping for a release date. Oh well, I guess the wait continues. :/

The game does look utterly fantastic though.

Rabbits Versus Dragons... or something ... As I said earlier this week, the new skill unlocking sucks for me tbh..Im thinking of getting the 10th tier skill in a tree could take 10x of hours to actually unlock (might be wrong); does seem to be grindy ...

Seems to me another thing I have to get used to, first the weapon skills being set per weapon, now unlocking them :(

The Dynamic events system is still awesome!

EDIT, also: New blog entry - Making the Battle of Kyhlo They do sooooo much for everything they put into this game!

I don't actually mind the change that much. First off - it forces you to think about what you're doing, tactically speaking - In certain situations one weapon will be better than others, and I think we already saw hints of this with the underwater combat.

Second, regarding the skill unlocking - I like that aspect as well - ANet again showing that they're not going to stick with conventions just because everyone else is doing so.

It remains to be seen how it all works in practice, but based on that article the dude was pretty impressed overall. And it doesn't look like it will take too long to unlock skills either. Better than needing to hunt NPCs for specific skills in my book.
