It’s too late to start playing these games

I would probably put Half Life 1 on this list. I realise that it was epic at the time but I never got around to playing it. I tried playing it recently and it really hasn't aged well. I understand how you may enjoy it if you played it before, but as a totally new experience, I didn't enjoy it.

Get the Black Mesa rebuild of Half Life 1 if you want to play it. This version of the game has been rebuild to look a bit better, and will make the game much more enjoyable

WoW's player count is down to about 6.8m at the moment, but it should increase with the new expansion. They've actually made the game very newb friendly, part of the reason most of the older players don't like it anymore, too much "Hand holding". But it is actually pretty easy to pick up and start as a fresh player nowadays, much easier than it used to be.

Regarding DOTA 2, if you want to get into a MOBA, I suggest League of Legends to start off with, a bit simpler and to me the community doesnt seem as toxic (it's still bad though)

But dark souls is single player focus... It's never too late to enjoy a single player experience!

I would replace Dark souls with Counter strike.
CS is amazingly newb unfriendly! Bot matches will not prepare you for the online community.

Really? Aside from the graphics being dated HL1 aged very well. I don't see any reason why new players should be put off by playing one of the best FPS games made.

Not sure how I feel about the CoD online comment. How do you guys feel?

I get what he's saying about dying a lot. I mean, I do alright at the local LAN when we play FPS, but CoD online I tend to suck a LOT more. To the point of frustration. I'm hoping with Advanced Warfare's more Unreal Tournamentey design I can get some of my groove back (seriously, UT was my game :p)

It just feels clunky. I think it may have redefined the genre at the time but FPS's have come a long way since then. It's like going back to play Doom and there being no strafe. I still love it because it's Doom but I can easily understand why someone who never played it might find it deeply frustrating.

Can I disagree with the entire idea that it's too late to play these games? That's just a ridiculous notion. All of these games are good in their own regard and offer different kinds of experiences.

The whole article kind of feels like it's saying "don't try completely new things because you might have to spend time learning stuff and/or potentially suck at first".

THIS and soooo much THIS.

Played WOW from when it came out till around 2012 with the PUG raids and find a group crap came out. No more CC needed just jump and pew pew to get that epic loots.

Man do I miss the days where gank central was at the latest summoning stone and when openworld PvP was where its at. Hell Blizz made it even more noob friendly with insta level on certain purchases.

I know them feels bro

Even though I'm still very nostalgic about the older days, I still give the new expansions a go until I get bored. Already bought WoD and will try it out. I don't have the time now that I used when I used to raid HC, where we had 3 night a week progression, now I just cant commit to a raid schedule, so as much as LFR is giving a way free epics and making gear feel less special, I did find it nice to still be able to experience the new raid content without having to join a guild and get into their raid team. It doesn't feel as epic as it used to, and you don't make the same friends, but I'm happy that I can still see all the new raids.

Other than that, I just PvP with a mate when we get the time. Haven't played WoW in months, but a part of me is quite keen to start again with the new expansion.

Personally,i don't even know what the point of the article is.

He's basically telling you not to play these games because of his own biased reasons.

I personally find it very hard to get into quite an old game that I've never played before. Graphics aside the gameplay is usually very clunky and hard to get into after how we've been spoiled with epic titles each new generation. Nostalgia goes a long way in helping me still enjoy old titles I loved when I was younger though.

I understood the article as not being too serious, since most of the games on the list don't really fall into "too late to play" category.

Poor Marco is getting WAY too much hate for something that has a lot of truth to it. I've tried playing DOTA and COD Online once. Once, and never again. Why would you torture yourself in such a toxic environment? I play games to enjoy them, and there is no enjoyment to be had with DOTA or COD, and even Battlefield for that matter. I wouldn't say I particularly suck at these games, but I find no fun in being called names and being shouted at by a 13 yo for no good reason. I will never recommend those games to anyone starting out in gaming. AT ALL!!

These games have garnered such a passionate following that, when someone says something even remotely negative about them, they attack that person.

Started playing AION recently, and am enjoying it, having a few friends who are old hands, helps ...
