Nvidia 3D Vision

Am I the only person on this forum who's attempting to run a Nvidia 3D Vision setup on my PC? I find that hard to believe! :(

Sigh. Oh well. I'll let you guys know what it's like when I've got it up and running. It seems a shame that our gaming community isn't more involved with this. It just strengthens my statement about South Africa being left completely in the dark regarding 3D technology.

Not everyone has R2000 to spend on, let's be honest here, what's essentially a gimmic. Not to mention the 3D compatable monitor you need to get as well...... that's not even readily available in SA. We're not made of money like some people.

Okay dude. First off, back AWAY from the jealousy please. If you're still running a 486 with a trident video card then that's good for you. I'm not dissing anyone. Secondly, 3D is NOT a gimmick, it's a form of technology that's already being SHOVED into our living rooms and, believe me when I tell you this, it's going to become massive in a very short period of time.

I agree that's it's expensive, but to be honest, my glasses AND monitor that I had ti IMPORT costs the same as a single GTX 480 which can be bought LOCALLY. So it's not like I'm proclaiming that I have loads of money, because I don't. I was merely intrigued by the fact that I seem to be the only (rather read "first") person on the forum to have built a 3D system. I'm usually NEVER the first with anything.

So instead of trolling my thread with envy, rather try and learn something from it and try and gain some knowledge from my experience that I'll soon get. After all, forums are for sharing info.

On a related note, i hear that the 3D mode is really awesome with many of the games.

I'd really like to try it before i decide to fork out some cash for it though...

I read that as well. The only negative thing (besides the cost, I know) is that you can count on losing up to 50% performance in ANY game when you enable Stereoscopic 3D. So that's a pretty big drawback. BUT, time goes on and so does technology, so when we all have saved up enough for GTX 480's, that won't be such a big deal.

Personally I am not that excited about playing new games in 3D Vision. What really excites me is that it's 100% compatible with older games. So what this will do for me is to basically "enhance" all of my older games. So it's going to open up a lot of doors on games I currently have that are gathering dust, and THAT makes it worth while.

I promise to update you guys on my experiences. For now I'm waiting for the monitor which will be here, hopefully, within the next 3 weeks.

Yeah for sure, i mean it has to render double the amount of frames so it makes sense.

Hehe yeah likewise, I'd love to blast away at Quake 2 and even Half Life is 3D.

:( I'm terribly sorry that you thought I was jealous. I'm getting all emotional here...... honestly there could be tears. :(

*sigh*

Obviously you've gotten it into your mind that I'm somehow jealous........ can't be bothered to try and change that.

I agree with you when you say that it's going to be the future, but not for everyone. I wear glasses and unless they're going to be making prescription 3D glasses, I for one won't be bothered. It's a pain in the ass to try and fit two pairs of glasses on your head. I have enough problems trying to sit through a 3D movie.

So instead of trolling my thread with envy,

I lol'ed :D

As a parting thought.... here's some definitions of a "Forum Troll" for you.

I'm Currently looking into such a setup myself. I did some research and the Current screen that I am trying to source is the Acer GD235HZ 23.6 120mhz.

Acer GD235HZ

That can replace my T260 which I will be using on my racing game rig then :D. I will see how things develop in the comming weeks, as I don't want to just rush into it without really having some hands on experience / testing with it. I do agree that it's not a fad though, it's here to stay.

Whatever man. You clearly have double standards. Complaining that not everyone is "made out of money" in one thread, but your brag about owning all 3 platforms and "pointing and laughing" at those who don't in other threads.

As we say in Afrikaans: Hier is vir jou 'n toffie.

As for the issue about already wearing glasses; The Nvidia 3D Vision glasses were designed to be worn OVER any existing glasses you may be wearing. I tried it out and they fit perfectly over my prescription glasses, but my glasses' frame was made recently and not in 1902, so I can understand how some people may have issues.

Wassup dude! I'm getting the EXACT same Acer monitor you're looking at and I'm also going to replace my T260 with it! It seems I can provide you with accurate information since I'm currently in the process of doing exactly what you want to do. Keep an eye on this thread!

Perhaps I can add that I sourced the monitor from www.wantitall.co.za and it costs about R5000. Ouchies.

Wowsers. I don't know what happened or even why it happened, but the same monitor on wantitall.co.za is now R1000 more than it was when I ordered it last week. Obviously I chose a very good time to order the item. Personally, I would not pay R6000 for a 23.6" monitor. R5K is already clinically insane on my part.

I'm looking into getting a 3D setup as well now, damn you Neo =) The only thing holding me back is the monitor, specifically size. I would really like a 3D capable 25.5" (T260) or bigger, but I just can't seem to find one. I'm using a 5970, so I'm probably going to with the IZ3D driver until HDMI 1.4 compliant monitors/TVs are more commonplace. I suspect that they will go for one hell of a premium for a few months.

EDIT: Ok, I've pretty much decided on the Zalman ZM-MW240 24" polarized 3D display, expensive, but its a decent sized monitor, comes with 2 glasses and works with ATI cards. The only problem, I can't find somewhere to buy it! I would normally get this imported from wantitall, but they don't have it listed.

Well, to be honest I don't have the cash. After moving to a new apartment (monster deposit :() and having to buy a washing machine (LG FTW) I wasn't sitting pretty. Then came the "120GB Slim for R2300" saga. I knew I couldn't let an opportunity like this slip by, so I thoroughly spanked my credit card again. It's funny how a R2300 transaction can cause you so much grief.

Needless to say I am now up shit creek without a paddle and it'll probably take me till the end of the year to get back into the black....... but I digress.

As we say in Afrikaans: Hier is vir jou 'n toffie.

Ek is Afrikaans......

Interesting, I did not know that......

Quite obviously we have gotten off on the wrong foot here and I confess my original post could have been worded better. I should more than likely have :p when I

So ek vra onverskoning vir my post en sal jou nie meer pla nie.

I can give you some advice and tell you to maybe hold out for the Asus 27" (big enough for you?) 3D monitor coming out in June. Just google "Asus 27" 3D Monitor", and you'll see what I'm talking about. The only thing I don't like about that specific monitor is the styling. It looks flippen awful. To be honest, a 27" monitor with a Max resolution of 1920x1080 is going to look a bit daft. I currently use a Samsung T260, so if I move to a 23.6" monitor with a 1920x1080 resolution it shouldn't look that bad as it's a smaller resolution but also a smaller screen...so same thing at the end of the day. Well, that's my theory.

Toxin: Niks om voor jammer te wees nie dude. Die is 'n forum en mense stry elke liewe dag, dis wat dit fun maak lol. No hard feelings at all!

With delivery charges (and bearing in mind that I'm still waiting for the monitor to arrive):

R2000 for the Nvidia 3D Vision Kit (glasses and IR transmitter)
R5000 for the Acer 23.6" 3D Monitor

So R7000. Rather expensive. Then again, so is a GTX 480 and this adds something a lot different to your PC, so I gather it's worth it.
