With the release of Far Cry 3 only a day away and the reviews looking very promising, I feel it is only right to get a Far Cry 3 discussion going :)

You lucky BASTID! Still so long before I get to meet vaas!! :(

Yeah the first world has its advantages. To cope with the added load during the Christmas season Amazon ships next day products a day early. Since I live in London and close to the different depots I get it a day early.

The rest of us have to wait until tomorrow... Damn 3rd world!!!

I can't wait, the reviews have really got me psyched:D

One day is not going to kill us. :p

Besides tomorrow is Friday and thus the better day to receive a shiny new game. :D

Greenmangaming apparently shipped their keys yesterday already. Someone on the NAG forums was already busy preloading last night.

Its a sandbox game, the story is going to be meh at best and shit at worst. No two ways about it.

From what I've read and watched the story is not half bad, with interesting characters and intriguing concepts. I know you didn't like Red Dead, but IMHO that was a sandbox game with a brilliant story and amazing cast of characters, so sandbox does not necessarily equal bad story.

Agreed, RDR had a good story but due to the open nature of sandbox games hurts story progression and so the story. I've also heard that FC3 has some interesting story elements seemingly inspired by Spec Ops The Line which, IMHO, has one of the best plots of a game this year. However I have also heard that they end up cheapening these.

Ubisoft have long since proved that they struggle with plot progression in a sandbox, AC3 is a prime example. In it the progression and character building is, IMHO, all wrong. But that is a whole other story.

I have faith that FC3's story will be passable though after the refreshingly cynical take Spec Ops did on modern shooters I doubt it will surpass my expectations.

Yeah it's probably not going to be mind blowing stuff, but as long as it stays interesting it will at least help as a motivator to stop messing around in the sandbox and once in a while to some structured missions. :D

And yes I know those oven mitts are teh awesome!

Im to lazy to retype so here is a post I made on FB last night:

From my first couple of hours with it Far Cry 3 is everybody the great game I was hoping it would be. I've liberated a couple of checkpoints, hunted some animals and skinned a few animals. Also I'm amazed at how well the game handles my switching from stealth to full assault. Next on my to do list... Try out my new bow :D

Currently my only fear is that maxing out the crafting will be too easy, so far I've only had to hunt goats, boars and pigs. Hopefully some of the more wild animals will be more of a challenge to slay.

I am also happy to report that it no longer takes several headshots to down an enemy. I shot at a goat which drew the attention of a nearby patrol as they drove towards me I sprayed the jeep and managed to kill the 2 passengers.

I cant wait to play more.

So does it surpass you're expectations? :P

So far? Yes. The degree to which they put you in Jason's body is amazing. I felt like I was running through the jungle and when assaulting a checkpoint and getting spotted by a dog after stealthily taking out 3 guards and then have to quickly switch tactics before an alarm is triggered. The mad rush to salvage the situations. I also like that the knife mechanics are universal meaning its not only a one shot weapon if you hit the guy perfectly from behind as in many other games, if you come around a corner and run into a guard hitting the melee attack quickly gets you a nice takedown.
