Official Elite Dangerous Thread

So we played E:D for the first time in a long time again last night with the wings update and I must say it really bumped up the enjoyment of the game a lot.

Unfortunately though, I encountered several lag spikes and annoying little bugs. At one point we picked up very valuable cargo at a salvage site and while flying back I shaved slightly too close to a son and it caused my cargo hatch to malfunction and I lost all of the cargo. Sad part is my hull was still at 100% :(

I also encountered this issue, and eventually had to replace the pulse lasers because they simply weren't working at all anymore.

EDIT: Also I'm quite surprised that they launched the game on Steam without as much as an announcement in the newsletter. It would have been nice if they had given us the option... I would certainly have preferred a Steam key.

I know they are looking into the possibility of giving people who already own it to redeem it via a Steam key.

Same here, but apparently nearly everyone would have preferred a Steam key, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time before they give it to us.

I doubt it. They would say that the risk is too great that those people will give the steam keys to their friends and they'll lose out on thousands of sales.

Again, I doubt it. If they gave a hoot about how the community felt they would have tried to implement offline mode in some extent to prevent the massive backlash. They haven't announced it in the newsletter because they are hoping people don't find out, or don't care anymore by the time they find out.

Background:
FDEV promised offline mode during the kickstarter, they announced sneakily buried deep inside a newsletter one month before release that offline mode is no longer on the table. Did they offer unconditional refunds to the affected users? Hell no. They pointed them into a support black hole from which they never received replies. Only the true die hard consumers eventually managed to get refunds after fighting tooth and nail for 4 months..

Some of the users were offered measly refunds of GBP40 when they backed GBP120+, others were told that they weren't eligible for refunds because they backed before offline mode was promised, even though offline mode was on the table by the time the game funded. FDEV also refused to refund users who had downloaded the client, even those who had done so before they announced that offline mode was no longer coming.

Now you know why FDEV is taking so much flak.

The majority of the users only got their refunds after 4 months after they sent through LBA (letter before action) legal documents to FDEV threatening court action.

And decide for yourself whether you really want to support a company that treats it's customers like this?

And yes, for the inevitable flame that I will attract for this post, please go and read http://mygaming.co.za/forum/showthread.php/41372-Official-Elite-Dangerous-Thread and see how my sentiment towards E:D and FDEV changed.

Hey guys,
I started ED two days ago.

Looking for people to occasionally fly around with etc.
There are a lot of pages in this thread to read through so finding everyone's name could take some time ;).

Feel free to add me to friends. (I've also created a group which you can join - If there isn't already a nice ZA one)

So, now with the Wings update (beta i think?) being in full swing, you guys playing more and is it making itself now feel worth it and more like a polished/finished game?

Here's looking at you Wyzak

I'm playing the game again yes (wings isn't beta, it's fully released, but you may be thinking about the mac beta). Unfortunately I'm experiencing a lot of bugs:
1) 5+ contacts disappearing from radar in an instant, has happened on multiple occasions
2) massive FPS drop in super-cruise, up to 30 second delay when entering/exiting super cruise - experienced by other players playing at the same time a well
3) syncing issues in wings where my wingman can see cargo floating around, but I'm right next to him and I can't.

Hi everyone,

First, I want to thank everyone who helped make our game the number one bestseller on Steam, and to all our players who helped welcome new Commanders into the community. We’re working hard on the game, and it’s great for the team to see so much passion from players.

For those of you who already own Elite: Dangerous from our store and asked about getting the game in your Steam collection: we hear you and we’re looking into it. We can’t speak for other cases where the same question has come up, but turning EliteDangerous.com customers into Steam customers unfortunately isn't 100 percent our decision and isn’t free for us in the context of the game’s ongoing growth and development. It could take a few weeks to work through, but we hear your feedback and addressing it is a priority for all of us.

For the Mac beta we’ve been receiving some excellent feedback, so as always, thanks to you all for that. A new Mac beta client will be released early next week.

Looking further ahead we have the Powerplay update, the big announcement is still a couple of weeks away but I can reveal a bit more of what will form part of the wider update and that is a major overhaul for the missions system. This isn’t directly part of the new Powerplay feature, but does supplement it. We’ve been working on this since the game’s initial release to provide us with a mission system that will support the game as we keep adding new features and content and improve your experience with all missions.

We’ve focused on a few clear goals for this revamp. The first is being able to provide a wider range of missions and in a method we can easily add to and increase variation within the mission type. We’re also adding the ability to select mission locations and targets (where applicable) in the galaxy and system map. Greater use of the player inbox will be used to support mission branches, making them easier to manage.

One of the limitations of the current system is that missions tended to be a good option for starting players, but not so much for later on in the game. The overhaul will address this issue by making missions available for more experienced players as well as specific missions for higher ranks or status – such as being a Founder level member. The system will also expand the influence of reputation on missions to reward players who build a high reputation with minor factions.

As with any major update we will take the opportunity to add some incidental improvements to the game. One such improvement is that the maximum loan value for ship rebuys will scale according to your Pilots Federation ranking, allowing a greater safety net as you progress through the game. For ship customisation you will also be able to fit more than one fuel tank to your ship – although this obviously takes up space you could have used on other modules!

Thanks!

Michael

Dev Update

That's the first that I've heard of them reaching nr 1 on steam sales. Even the die-hard supporters have only said that it's reached the top 20s or so.

It's already marked as sold out. I think it was supposed to only be shown as pre-order, as that is what kalahari is showing. I ordered mine from them, seeing as I had a voucher that gave me significant discount. Hopefully it'll ship/process tomorrow like they're saying, else I'll be really pissed, since Takealot was my plan B! :(

It was a daily deal. The good ones are sold out within minutes :) You'll have to be quicker next time.

Been playing this tonight and woah! This game looks fsking awesome with everything on Ultra!

Also feels a lot smoother control wise with the newer update. And sounds sound better.

Have you also been experiencing the lag in supercruise by any chance? I'll upload some videos tomorrow demonstrating the bug.

Sounds like a no to me, and how is it not 100% their decision? Sounds like they are trying to wrangle a deal with Steam and if that fails they'll blame Steam for it.

Erm, so this happened...

EDIT: Here are the videos I promised...

Are you referring to your 13fps while in Supercruise?

It's seemed to jump back to 60fps once you dropped out.

And oh wow... they just disappeared. I don't think I've experienced anything like that. I have seen lag in terms of my transactions/bounties not clearing or updating after a few seconds.

Yes, I'm referring to the constantly slowing frame rate in supercruise. It's almost like a memory leak is slowly devouring memory and causing frames to be lost. It immediately jumps back to 60 as soon as you leave supercruise yes.

Yeah, I've noticed it a little here and there, nothing as bad as yours though.

Side note: I've made a station's Top 5 Bounties list ^_^
I'm just going around attacking and murdering a whole lotta CMDR's. It's surprising how many run away though, and hardly any fight!
