RIFT : Planes of Telara

Yeah, welcome to our guild Voicy ;-)

Thank you for the invitation. :)

I'll be sure to bombard you with tons of questions.

Thus far I'm enjoying my Warlock/Chloroform/Necro build. The pet skeleton helps a bit to keep mobs off me initially. I haven't been enjoying my lvl 14 defiant reaver/pally/voidy warrior as much and I'm still only lvl7 on my defiant rogue marksman.

I'll play each class up to lvl20 and then take it from there...sure I'll miss out, but when I started wow I played a rogue for 3 years without creating any alts and that wasn't healthy. On Aion/ Guild Wars & Lotro I made multiple classes and played up to mid levels and thoroughly enjoyed seeing which tickled my fancy.

I lolled :P
Voicy how do the caster vs melee's compare to that of other MMO's?
Also squishies?

I told Kiruna and the prophecy lads last night on my first shard (server) "overlook" there were 2 guys LFG'ing with their chars ... A Purifier and a Chloro ... so the one guy tunes in trade "You guys should start a pool maintenance profession with those specs."

As for squishiness ... the only clothies are mages ... and the chloro build is a healing spec, there are also 2 specs with pets and support roles etc. so I suppose they are glass cannons, but you actually have to get to them.

So ... who wants to quest with me?

The Cleric (healer class) is actually very robust for being a caster. I found that I died a whole lot more as a warrior than I do as a DPS Cleric.

Yeah my mate is playing one - they seem to be the class to beat at the moment. I see tons of them running around. Very very few mages tbh.

My mage is lvl11 now and I'm really starting to enjoy her, but getting bags is a real pain. Would be cool if I could trade mats/skills with someone for bags etc, but I'm guessing everyone's got better and higher skillsets than me already.

EDIT: Whahaha! I got a lucky purple drop tonight. "The hand of Ragnaros" or something ... it's an evil bunny minipet. Got a chiefmint for releasing the horrible creature into the wild! :p

Still waiting to get that drop again after I rerolled.

Damn, I liked that feature. Gave it more of an impact.

*sigh*

This is getting bloody ridiculous.

Should really look into getting uncapped. Mweb's 384kb shaped uncapped isn't too pricey.

I am unlucky enough to have to pay 25c a meg for my usage, wireless in the middle of nowhere. As long as I average about 100-120 megs a day it doesnt break the bank, and that includes my wife's internet usage. So far I am happy with the BW usage on Rift, I can fit it into my budget. When I played DCUO I had to narrow it down to 2 hours a day max, that game chewed through my BW like crazy.

I guess it's nice that they are actively out to fix things - that's great, but it doesn't explain the size of the patches. My only experiences so far with MMOs to date have been Guildwars and Aion - and unless there was actual content being added or major updates, a patch of 20MB would be a big one. And once in a blue moon, rather than every 2 days.

Rift's pacing with their patches is insane at the moment - 5 patches in the first week I've had the game, and now in the one weekend I haven't logged on there's been 3 more - adding another 120MB to download. If I had to pay 25c/meg I'd be crying by now.

Oooo, you just stepped into a landmine there. You are going to play SWTOR because you are a trekkie..... ouch

It is a MAYBE cause I am one ;) Not really keen on the lore and such of SW thats why I think of skipping it.

Early days. I'm glad they don't wait weeks to roll out one 50mb patch and in meanwhile we need to sit with bugs and such.

The size is easy to explain, even if it do not add or change art assets. Look at the exe for example, it is 15Mb alone, add some DLLs that got patched and assets like art, quest data, sound, etc, and it adds up.

Heya guys. New to mygaming - not new to MMO's; been a fairly hardcore WoW player for the last 3 years and have just bought Rift to check it out a bit. I thought I'd perhaps give the Finnish and Swedish people a break for a bit and see what my fellow South Africans have made of this :) - very happy to see Prophecy up and running on Steampike; if you don't mind I'd like to roll my first toon there and get in touch. In the meantime while my shiny digital download is firing away could you perhaps throw out some opinions on which class and race to pick (I'll roll Guardians ofc).

I was thinking a dps/pvp toon would be nice since I'm a bit tired of tanking now. I'm leaning towards a Rogue; are there any specs similar to a WoW Shadowstep Rogue? And can they roll out any respectable (and by that I mean more than any other class :P ) damage?

Rogues can be ninjas / hunters / marksmen / healers / buffers , etc. It's really not like WoW. Also, you can unlock a PVP specific spec later in the game as well.

But yeah - there are tons of then running around. Clerics are also doing quite well.

Sounds good, look us up when you're ingame.

Hmm correct me if I'm wrong, but seeing as how there are no addons. That also means that there are no damage meters correct? No more
"OMG LULZ I HAZ 5K MOAR DPS THAN YOU HURR DURR"
"I'm the healer mate"
"NOOB STFU L2P!"

Rift Junkies' Combat Parser

It is an optional external application, rumoured to be the source of all the hacking of accounts. There is no internal game display unless someone copies and pastes the text. I certainly will not be using it.
