RIFT : Planes of Telara

What I logged into this evening:

Also, I have to feeling that I'm the worst Chloromancer ever. I'm finding myself particularly squishy.

The mages are pretty squishy to start with - most of them seem to make up for it in terms of sheer firepower though. I don't know that I would recommend using Chloro as your primary soul - but rather as a backup to keep you alive a little longer when you're soloing. I reckon they're pretty nice in groups though as an additional healing option.

My Lock/Chloro/Necro is orsm. Main spec is lock, and spillover points go into chloro ... self healing 75% during a fight in 1 go is the business! I was actually thinking of rerolling a mage on Overlook, but my ranger is currently lvl 21 on there.

Last night I did my first dungeon by accident. I was in a rift raid and then when it was done 3 guys entered DM (lvl25 instance) and I was entered into it automatically. Due to the mob lvl, I kept missing pretty much all of them, but managed to get through it with them (lvl39-35 guys) ... at the end of the run they invited me into their guild, despite me winning a roll on a minipet. ^_^

I still need to do Iron Tombs though, but yeah ... fun times!

That's the thing, everything I've read about the chloromancer seems to indicate that they shouldn't be squishy. In most cases, it seems that a chloromancer can outlast any of the cleric souls in terms of HP and healing. I've got a Warlock soul as my secondary soul to buff my damage, which is more or less working and supporting my healing skills. I think my biggest gripe of the moment is that I have no AoE, only single target strikes. Perhaps I'm just not far enough in my soul trees for my build really to shine, will give it a little more time. Otherwise, perhaps a soul reshuffle is in order.

Thanks Voicy. Will see how it goes for the next couple of levels, maybe my points just need to be reallocated to make my build more usable.

Wanting to buy 30 day gamecard from Mygamingshop.co.za but it wants to charge me for shipping?

Type "Rift" into the voucher section, and they will email the code.

New patch:

Hotfix #14: 2:00am BST 8/3/11

WORLD EVENT
* Rings from the event merchants are now properly labeled as 'Unique'. These rings were previously set to be Unique but the text was not appearing on their tooltips.
* Added a display for the level requirements to Shadetouched Weapons Cache quest starting items. The level requirements existed previously but were not displayed on the item tooltip.
* Death Rift: Eternal Souls: You know that dragon that had wings but liked to walk a lot? He flies now!
* The Battle for Freemarch zone event now rewards Otherworldly Sourcestone for participation while the River of Souls event is underway.
* Adjusted the stage objectives for the River of Souls event Rift, 'Pride Before the Fall'. Added better messaging to the stages involving the Soothing Stone Light.

GENERAL
* Fixed the Normal Practice Dummy having the defenses of a Boss Practice Dummy.
* Guild Perk: Planar Protection: Fixed a bug that caused this perk to consume Banner reagents.
* Fixed a bug where the Sir or Dame title would occasionally not be sent to eligible characters.
* Corrected the stats on the essence 'Elusive Prey' to have Melee Critical Hit instead of Spell Critical Hit.

ZONES
* Fixed issues in high-level zones that could cause Invasions to not spawn. This should help with zone events not spawning their Invasions as well.

SANCTUM
* Scotty's Induction Ceremony for the Runeguard will no longer be interrupted by hostile creatures appearing in the same area.

SILVERWOOD
* The rare spawn mob, 'Pandora', can now be killed by Defiants.

DUNGEONS AND RAIDS
* Over 100 new item drops have been added to Expert Dungeons and Raids!

DARKENING DEEPS
* Expert: Scarn: Fixed the fires so they stay stuck on the bone piles.
* Expert: Scarn: Molten Phlegm effect is now cleansable. If your buddy is on fire, put them out!
* Expert: Scarn: Reduced area of Scarn's frontal cleave so it shouldn't catch players who are visibly outside of the front area of effect.

GREENSCALE'S BLIGHT [Raid]
* Duke Letareus, Infiltrator Johlen, and Oracle Aleria now drop 3 items when killed.
* Prince Hylas now drops 4 items when killed.
* Greenscale now drops 4 items when killed, and additional Relic items have been added to the possible drop list.
* Resolved a rare edge case where the instance would crash during a raid wipe-triggered Lord Greenscale reset.

AUDIO
* Addressed a bunch of audio issues with combat sounds being very quiet or not playing at all.
* The Lute purchased from Artifact rewards has more even-volume sound effects.
* More audio volume-level fixes for sounds playing too loudly (level up, anyone?) or too quiet.

CRAFTING
* A system fix to Unique-Equip crafted items that made them look for the base item when checking the Unique-Equip status went in with the 1.1 patch. This made identical rings or weapons with different Augment or Rune types unable to be equipped at the same time (or re-equipped if you already had them on a character and removed one or both). We are taking a look at the current Unique-Equip crafted items affected by this to see if further adjustments to their power are needed in order to keep them desirable.
* You can no longer close opened crafting reward containers and lose items left inside.
* Quests from dropped Cloth starters (The Caress of Cloth, Textile Texture, and From a Humble Scrap) can once again be completed and lead to the follow-up provided by the turn-in NPC.
* Calamitous Runes and Ravaging Runeshards now provide Spell Critical Hit. Devastating Runes and Destructive Runeshards now give Melee Critical Hit.

SETTINGS
* Added a self-cast modifier key dropdown under Settings -> Combat. This allows you to set a key that will always try to self-cast an ability if that key is held while the ability is used (such as setting up 'Alt' to allow 'Alt+1' to attempt to self-cast the ability in hotbar slot 1).
* There are now two sliders to scale the size of player and NPC nameplates under Options -> Name.
* Video recording: A bit rate slider has been added to the recording options window that will affect the quality and size of the video created.

CLIENT/SERVER
* Coin lock should be behaving better for players who also run VPN software on their machines.
* Server performance improvements.

I'm not so sure. From what I've read they make great support healers, but for straight healing a Cleric can't be beat.

Well ... in any case, you guys must enjoy Rift - it just didn't fit with me :) - and the constant patching officially makes this the most bandwidth heavy game I've ever played.

I've moved back to Aion, I'm just more at ease there ;)

Enjoy it buddy, I haven't played Aion since October '09. See you in GW2 / SW:TOR.

I'll admit that I may completely off my rocker, but from what I've seen, it seems to some degree that it's possible. It's just that at the moment, I'm not feeling particularly effective or powerful with my toon.

That's why I love playing Cleric, it's such a hardy class to play. I struggle to play my Warrior with no heals to aid me. :p

Cheers, ordered.

For those interested, I found this Mage leveling guide. I don't play mages, so I don't know how effective it is.

Basically, you seem to take up Necro/Lock/Dominator

The Magic Formula

By stacking these classes in this fashion, we have created the perfect magic formula which is the basis of this Rift Mage Leveling guide. We can use our abilities now to take out groups of 2-4 monsters with ease.

The amount of enemies you will be able to kill at once depends on the level difference. For monsters that are your level you should be able to take out about 3 at a time. For one level above you, 2 at a time, and for 1 level or more below you, 4 at a time.

Here is how it works:

- Find a group of enemies and cast Life Leech on each one from range. Tab through the 2-3 monsters and individually cast Life Leech on each one. You should be able to get off 2-3 Life Leeches before each enemy can get close to you.

Do not allow your pet to run away but rather allow the monsters to come to you. This is important. You can set your pet to passive and then later command it to attack. Alternatively (if you are just killing 1-2 monsters at once), you can just follow it.

- After you get off the Life Leeches, cast Necrosis and Dark Touch on each monster. Both of these are instant casts and deal damage over time (DoT).

- Once all the enemies pile on top of you and all your DoTs are up, throw down Grave Rot on the ground. This is another very powerful DoT spell and it also significantly increases your pet’s damage.

- With 4 DoT effects on each enemy, they will die very quickly. For any mobs you want to finish off more quickly you can use the “Neural Prod” spell on, which is an instant cast Dominator ability with solid damage.

- Do not try to cast Plague Bolt or Void Bolt if you are being attacked by a horde of enemies. DoTs and Neural Prod are just fine.

- When you can, use the Skeleton Stalwart as a pet; it can easily hold hate on two monsters with DoT effects if you macro it correctly.

Also found this topic on the official forums Best Leveling Spec for more info.

Thanks Gimaru. Hmmm ... theoretically, that "magic formula" should work for my build as well, as I can supplement the lack of pet with additional heals. In fact, I may possibly have more DoT's than a Necro/Lock build.

So who's going to be logged in for the next event tomorrow? It's starting at 2pm by the looks of it.

I really wish I could but I'm going to be in Pretoria the whole day tomorrow. Ah well, there's always Sunday. :)

Not to worry, I think that the servers will go down again at 2pm to 8pm like last time (something like that) so you won't miss much. Maelstorm, not sure if you know, but in case you don't, you can unlock all the mage souls, and purhase 3 or 4 roles i.e. specs, and can just switch to either one at any time. Could help you for finding a decent leveling spec.

Don't you have to do this over time and by doing quests to unlock each one? For my ranger I've only unlocked the 'Sin role so far and he's lvl 21 already.

For every soul you want to unlock, you get a quest in which you have to close a rift. Pretty easy, and quick if you're lucky.

Dude, right now I have more quests than you can shake a stick at ... i'll have to go back and work through them systematically.

So, the event phase 2 is running but it is 100% unplayable for me because of 50,000ms odd, and constant disconnects :P
