SimCity 2013

The idea of micro-transactions outside of MMO's is pretty whack and something I would never go for. Luckily, I'm very 1-game centric and apart from DDO, if there is something I really badly want to play/try, I'll grab it through other means.

Yeah sure the same goes for me, but if my Wii U is busy updating or downloading demos in the background and iTunes is busy updating and Steam is busy downloading. Why does that have to affect my single-player game? If my adsl line is down because Telkom screwed up in the exchange again, why should I not be able to play the games that I paid top dollar for? The majority of gamers appear to be far too agreeable.

I don't believe that. I'm yet to meet a serious gamer that actually likes the microtransaction model. All of the serious gamers are very concerned / frightened by this new trend. It's also telling to me that a lot of the big game developers in the world are no longer working for big companies but are working for indy houses. Look at Fargo from Wasteland, or Max Schaefer of Runic Games. Those guys brought amazing games to us in their prime and these days they are doing their own thing far far away from the big development houses. What are the credentials of the CEO's of Blizzard, EA, Etc? Which games did those guys actually work on in their lifetimes?

That's why you support them. Can't wait for wasteland that looks insanely good. Its simple just don't buy the game with online only play, seeing as how's its marketed multi player only. So this is not a single player game as simple as that. Sure its a far cry from simcity 2000 where you played single player. But times they have changed.

@Wyzak yeah the micro transactions is the one that scares me the most. you get this in your head that its so cheap for this and that and this and end of the month you realize you spend way to much on a game you don't really play anymore.
Gamers are leading the gaming companies they put in micro transactions and they see people spend money on it aka gamers so that is where its going. For how long this model will last nobody really knows.

My biggest concern with micro transactions is how much they might have stripped out of the game to charge for it at a later stage.

Looking forward to this :D would love to build dem city's next to Mygaming members :)

As for online only... I'm always connected to the internet. And I have enough SP games I haven't finished to keep me busy IF the internet is off.

Yep, I can only see myself supporting more and more indie titles and less and less AAA titles.

The other issue with online only is that you can only play the game as long as the company continues to exist and continues to run their servers. As soon as the company goes belly up or they decide for whatever reason (maybe to try and coax support for their newest product) to pull the servers, then you can no longer play the game you bought. Call it an insurance policy for the dev.

What is the last game that you played that the servers taken offline?

I buy very few online-games for this reason amongst others. What is the first game that you will buy which will have its servers taken down? Look what happened to THQ, look at the financial troubles of EA etc etc. The big guys are not immune.

Lol, from Totalbiscuits twitter feed:

yea this is typical, really was keen on trying this game but knew I shouldn't get it because it was online only. All these anti piracy measures are really killing the gaming industry, there is no ways Ill buy this game as long as it is online only, if it was like an MMO I can understand online only but not for simcity.

Just keep on supporting the little guys instead of the big douchebags and the industry will be fine. The guys at the top think that they can tell us what they want, but the power is in our hands, or more specifically our pockets.
